Backstage Update Suggests Dominik Mysterio May Return Sooner Than Expected

Backstage Update Suggests Dominik Mysterio May Return Sooner Than Expected – There is encouraging news regarding the injury status of Dominik Mysterio following concerns that his absence could be lengthy.

As previously reported, the reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion and AAA Mega Champion suffered a shoulder injury on December 20 at AAA’s Guerra de Titanes event. WWE acknowledged the situation during this week’s episode of RAW. In a backstage segment, Liv Morgan told Raquel Rodriguez that Mysterio would be sidelined “for a while,” while commentator Joe Tessitore later confirmed on the broadcast that Dominik was out indefinitely. That wording immediately raised speculation about the possibility of surgery and an extended recovery.

However, a new update suggests the outlook is far more optimistic than initially feared. According to Fightful Select, WWE sources now believe that Dominik Mysterio is unlikely to require surgery for the shoulder injury. Internally, the hope is that he will be medically cleared in time for Royal Rumble week, which would significantly limit his time away from television.

Dave Meltzer echoed that assessment on Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer reported that Mysterio is expected to miss approximately three to four weeks of action, adding that the current belief is that he will be available for the Royal Rumble. If accurate, that timeline would allow Dominik to remain part of WWE’s plans heading into one of the company’s biggest events of the year.

The injury occurred late in the AAA match when Mysterio took a DDT and immediately appeared to favor his arm. Despite the injury, he was able to finish the bout, though fans in attendance noted that he struggled to lift his shoulder afterward. Initial reports had suggested a possible separated shoulder, with internal concern that surgery might be necessary. This latest update appears to put those fears to rest, at least for now.

Dominik’s absence has already been felt on RAW, given his central role in The Judgment Day and his status as Intercontinental Champion. A return by Royal Rumble week would minimize disruption to ongoing storylines and keep him positioned as a key player heading into WrestleMania season.

As always, WWE has not officially announced a return date, but the current backstage outlook is far more positive than it was earlier in the week.
