Update on Santos Escobar’s WWE Status – Santos Escobar experienced a whirlwind stretch in October when reports surfaced suggesting the Legado Del Fantasma leader was on his way out of WWE and heading toward free agency. That situation shifted just as quickly, however, when word emerged that Escobar had re-signed with the company. While that put an end to the contract uncertainty, it did not immediately lead to a return to WWE television, and his continued absence has now drawn internal attention.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Escobar’s disappearance from WWE programming is not related to injury, disciplinary action, or any off-screen issue. Instead, those within the company have described the situation as something that simply “fell through the cracks.” Meltzer reported that there is confidence internally that plans for Escobar will be “back on track,” even though no clear timeline or creative direction has been finalized as of now.
Escobar has been off WWE television for roughly three months since the contract confusion settled, and while his name has not been featured on SmackDown or any Premium Live Events, sources indicate that members of the creative team are actively working to address the oversight. How Escobar will ultimately be reintroduced, and in what role, remains unclear at this stage.
The former NXT Cruiserweight Champion has remained patient publicly. His most recent Instagram post, shared in November, appeared to acknowledge the situation with a cryptic quote: “All good things to those who wait” – Hannibal Lecter. Since then, Escobar has kept a low profile while waiting for his next opportunity.
Escobar was last seen in televised action on the June 7 edition of WWE x AAA Worlds Collide in Los Angeles. That night, he teamed with Angel and Berto to defeat El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., Pagano, and Psycho Clown in a six-man tag team match. At the time, Escobar was firmly positioned as a member of the WWE SmackDown roster.
A fixture in WWE since signing with the company in 2019, Escobar has been viewed as one of the most polished luchadors of his generation. While his absence has raised questions among fans, the latest update suggests it is a creative lapse rather than a sign of deeper issues, with WWE now working to get him back into the fold.
