Booker T Praises GUNTHER as One of Wrestling’s Last True Ring Artists – WWE Hall of Famer Booker T recently offered high praise for World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER, describing him as one of the last performers who truly understands the art of professional wrestling. Speaking on the latest episode of his podcast, Booker emphasized GUNTHER’s ability to maintain credibility and realism in an era increasingly defined by high-risk, high-flying offense.
According to Booker T, GUNTHER’s style stands out precisely because he does not rely on spectacle. “This era is definitely going to have a problem with a guy like Gunther being the top guy, just because he’s not the guy that’s going to go out there and do some of the things that you know they will want to see. As far as you know, diving, flying, whatnot,” Booker said. He added that GUNTHER excels at something far more difficult. “He’s just a guy that knows how to do what I talk about, very, very well. He knew how to beat guys up very, very poetically. It looks nice when he beats guys up. It looks so real to life.”
Booker went on to explain the balance GUNTHER strikes in the modern wrestling landscape, particularly in the post-MMA era, where realism plays a larger role in audience perception. “Before MMA, we really had nothing to really compare ourselves to… But when MMA came along, you know, we had to walk a certain line as professional wrestlers,” Booker said. “Gunther knows exactly how to stay on that line and make you believe in what he’s doing, even though this is professional wrestling.”
He concluded by crediting GUNTHER with preserving what he views as the core of the business. “That’s the true art of this game… He’s one of the last of the guys that really go out there and do it like that. So I’ll give him a lot of credit.”
GUNTHER’s reign has been defined by dominant performances and a presentation rooted in physicality and believability. Booker T’s comments further reinforce the perception that GUNTHER represents a traditional, disciplined approach that continues to resonate at the highest level of WWE.
WWE has confirmed that GUNTHER will face AJ Styles at the Saturday, January 31 premium live event in Saudi Arabia, with Styles agreeing to a career-threatening stipulation. If Styles loses, he will retire.
