The February 27 episode of WWE SmackDown at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky, opened in an unexpected manner on Friday night.
Instead of the usual in-ring segment, the broadcast began with “Main Event” Jey Uso being placed on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance. The incident immediately raised questions about Uso’s status for Saturday’s premium live event.
WWE released an official statement during the broadcast addressing the situation.
“BREAKING: Emergency medical personnel have been called backstage minutes before SmackDown. Reports are that a WWE Superstar was attacked backstage, but have yet to be confirmed.
It’s chaos backstage at SmackDown in the aftermath of tonight’s reported attack on Jey Uso.”
Uso had been scheduled to compete at WWE Elimination Chamber on Saturday night. At this time, there has been no confirmation regarding who may have been responsible for the reported attack.
With SmackDown still in progress, the show has shifted its focus toward identifying a potential replacement for the Men’s Elimination Chamber match. Commentary indicated that officials are working to determine the next steps if Uso is unable to compete.
The situation adds uncertainty to the final build toward Elimination Chamber. If Uso is officially ruled out, WWE will need to finalize a substitute before the event begins. As of now, no additional details have been confirmed regarding the nature of the attack or Uso’s medical condition.
