Chris Jericho is officially back in AEW, and new details have emerged regarding how his return came together behind the scenes.

Jericho made his surprise comeback during the April 1 episode of AEW Dynamite in Winnipeg, marking his first live appearance on AEW programming since April 8, 2025.

According to a report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, the general belief backstage is that Jericho and AEW have agreed to a new contract. While full details of the deal were not disclosed, the report strongly indicates that his return was not a one-off appearance.

Jericho’s arrival at the venue was reportedly kept tightly under wraps. He did not appear backstage until just before the show went live and was driven directly into the building only minutes ahead of the broadcast. From there, he went straight to the gorilla position in preparation for his entrance, minimizing the chance of leaks prior to his on-screen return.

After his segment opened the show, Jericho remained active behind the scenes. The report notes that he filmed additional content once he returned backstage and also participated in a photo shoot. He later spent time meeting talent he had not previously worked with, indicating a reintegration into the AEW locker room.

Jericho’s status had been the subject of heavy speculation in recent months. His trademark filing for “Cornerstone” fueled discussion about his next move, while multiple reports suggested he could return at any time. On the day of his comeback, Fightful Select reported that AEW sources expected him to appear, which ultimately proved accurate.

There had also been talks between Jericho and WWE, though reports indicated WWE never had concrete creative plans in place. He was not scheduled for major events such as the Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber, and internal expectations suggest he will not be appearing there anytime soon.
