El Grande Americano made a surprise appearance during the May 23 episode of AAA on Fox, drawing attention due to the ongoing legal situation involving the man under the mask, Ludwig Kaiser.
The masked character, which has been part of WWE and AAA crossover storytelling, appeared on the broadcast ahead of a scheduled mask vs mask match against the original El Grande Americano next week. The bout remains officially on the card, signaling that AAA and WWE are continuing forward with the planned storyline despite recent real-world developments.
Kaiser was arrested in Orlando on May 20 on a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from an alleged April 23 incident at an apartment complex. According to the arrest affidavit, a confrontation occurred after a verbal exchange between Kaiser and a male resident regarding behavior inside an elevator involving Kaiser and a woman. The report alleges the situation escalated after the individuals exited the elevator, resulting in a physical altercation. Police documentation also referenced security footage and visible injuries on the complainant.
Following the incident, Kaiser turned himself in after learning of an active warrant while working in Mexico for AAA-related programming. He was booked into Orange County Jail, released on $1,000 bond, and later entered a not guilty plea through his legal representation. His attorneys have also filed a motion requesting permission for him to continue traveling internationally for wrestling commitments.
Despite the legal proceedings, Kaiser has continued to appear in Mexico under the El Grande Americano persona, including this week’s AAA broadcast appearance. The continuation of his on-screen role indicates that no immediate changes have been made to his scheduled match.
The upcoming mask vs mask bout will also feature the Original El Grande Americano, “widely identified in wrestling reporting” as Chad Gable. The stipulation remains one of the most significant traditions in lucha libre, adding further stakes to an already high-profile matchup.
At this time, neither World Wrestling Entertainment nor AAA has issued additional comments regarding Kaiser’s legal situation or any potential impact on his scheduled appearances. The situation continues to develop as the May 30 event approaches.
