Leon Slater Expected To Leave TNA With WWE And AEW Interest

Leon Slater is reportedly expected to depart TNA once his current contract expires, with internal belief pointing toward a move to either WWE or AEW.

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there is a strong feeling within the wrestling industry that Slater will not remain with TNA long-term. His recent title loss has added to that speculation.

“Cedric Alexander beat Leon Slater to win the X Division title in a 2/3 fall match on the 5/14 live show from Sacramento. So Slater ended up tied with Austin Aries (2011-2012) for the longest X title run at 298 days. A lot of people were mad about them not letting him break the record, but the belief is Slater is gone to WWE or AEW when his contract is up.”

Slater’s X-Division Championship run lasted 298 days, tying him with Austin Aries for the longest reign in the title’s history. The decision to have him drop the title before breaking the record drew criticism from some, especially given his strong run and momentum in the division.

Beyond TNA, Slater has built experience across several promotions. He has competed in Revolution Pro Wrestling, Game Changer Wrestling, and Progress Wrestling. One of his key achievements came at RevPro Uprising 2023, where he captured the Undisputed British Cruiserweight Championship. His time on the British independent scene played a major role in his early development as a performer.

As of now, TNA has not issued any official statement regarding Slater’s contract status or future. Slater himself has also not publicly addressed the situation.

While nothing has been confirmed, the expectation within the industry remains that Slater will explore opportunities elsewhere once his deal expires. His in-ring ability and recent title run make him a notable free agent prospect if and when he becomes available.
