Fightful noted that the original creative plans for Allin’s run, which were reported in April, were met with mixed reactions internally. However, after the reign concluded, several of those same voices expressed approval of the final outcome and praised Allin’s effort to elevate the championship during his time as champion.

The report also highlighted that the in-ring performances throughout the broader storyline received positive reactions within the AEW locker room. The matches and segments tied to the feud were viewed as effective in building momentum toward the championship program.

Fightful additionally addressed the behind-the-scenes perspective involving MJF. Sources within the company indicated that MJF was supportive of Darby Allin’s run as AEW World Champion for an extended period of time, despite the competitive nature of their storyline.

Allin captured the AEW World Championship on the April 15 edition of Dynamite, defeating MJF to begin his reign. His run lasted just over one month before coming to an end at Double or Nothing 2026 on May 24, where MJF regained the title in a high-stakes Title vs. Hair match.

Despite the short duration, AEW President Tony Khan described Allin’s reign during the post-show media scrum as “one of the greatest World title reigns” in company history, emphasizing its impact within the overall storyline direction.

The quick transition of the championship back to MJF closed out a tightly structured program that centered heavily on personal stakes, character development, and long-term storytelling within AEW’s top-tier division.
