WWE Files Complaint Against Texas Attorney General Over Agreement with San Antonio – In a recent legal maneuver, WWE has taken action against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to prevent the disclosure of a contract between the wrestling entertainment giant and San Antonio. This contract, WWE asserts, holds sensitive information regarding the 2023 Royal Rumble event held at the Alamodome.
The impetus for WWE’s legal response stemmed from an inquiry initiated by Wrestlenomics seeking details about the event. While the city was initially permitted to maintain the contract’s confidentiality until January 17, 2024, a decision by an Assistant Attorney General challenged WWE’s assertion of confidentiality.
WWE’s contract with San Antonio has significant financial implications, with the government having provided substantial subsidies for events like the Royal Rumble. The Attorney General’s change of stance appears linked to a subsequent records request from Intelligence Options, LLC, preceding October 12, 2023. Although the city had previously been granted approval to withhold the bidding contract by the state Attorney General’s office in April 2023, this decision was overturned on January 17, 2024, by Assistant Attorney General Michelle Garza. Garza cited WWE’s failure to furnish adequate evidence demonstrating the contract’s confidentiality under Texas’s public information law as grounds for the reversal.
