Former WWE Star Captures First TNA Wrestling Title at TV Tapings – TNA Wrestling held TV tapings on Saturday and Sunday in Newport, KY, preparing for upcoming episodes on AXS TV, which will air in the coming weeks. These tapings continue the buildup to the Slammiversary pay-per-view event in July and included a notable title bout featuring AJ Francis, formerly known as Top Dolla in WWE.
During the tapings, Francis defeated Laredo Kid to win the TNA Digital Media Championship, marking his first title reign in TNA. This victory ended Laredo Kid’s reign, which began at TNA Rebellion on April 20, 2024, when he defeated Crazzy Steve.
Francis, who transitioned from being an NFL defensive lineman to a WWE wrestler in 2020, was initially paired with Hit Row in NXT in May 2021. The group was promoted to SmackDown in October 2021 but was released in November 2021. WWE re-signed Francis, Ashante “Thee” Adonis, and B-Fab in August 2022, though Francis was let go again in September 2023. Subsequently, Francis joined TNA Wrestling.
Francis’ win adds momentum to the storyline developments as TNA approaches its Slammiversary event, highlighting his transition from WWE to making an impact in TNA Wrestling.
