JBL Says The Undertaker vs. GUNTHER Could Happen

JBL Says The Undertaker vs. GUNTHER Could Happen – According to WWE Hall of Famer JBL, a return to the ring for The Undertaker isn’t as unlikely as some might think. Speaking on the Something to Wrestle podcast, JBL praised the physical condition of his longtime friend and suggested that a comeback match could still be possible — with GUNTHER as the ideal opponent.

Undertaker’s Official Retirement

The Undertaker officially stepped away from the ring after his cinematic Boneyard Match with AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36 in 2020. WWE held a “Final Farewell” ceremony for him later that year at Survivor Series, marking 30 years since his debut. While he’s stayed retired from competition, The Phenom has remained a fixture in WWE through his popular 1 deadMAN SHOW appearances and occasional interviews.

But JBL doesn’t believe the door is entirely closed.

JBL Says Taker “Looks Great”

“I would think it’d be a possibility. He looks great. I mean, he looks great, and he’s in terrific shape,” JBL said. He noted that Undertaker has moved away from traditional heavy lifting in favor of functional training, keeping him agile and mobile even in retirement.

“He can, I feel like he probably could still move or move as well as he’s done for 20 years,” JBL continued. “I think that’d be great. I’d love to see him come back for something.”

GUNTHER Named as the Perfect Opponent

If The Undertaker were to step back into the ring, JBL believes there’s only one right choice for his opponent — current WWE World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER.

“Gunther is an easy choice,” JBL said. “You need a big, tough guy that can wrestle, that knows his way around, and you need a guy that can get heat on Undertaker. Undertaker is a big guy and still looks great. You need a guy like GUNTHER who can believably go toe-to-toe with him.”

A Dream Match with Generational Appeal

A clash between The Undertaker and GUNTHER would bridge two eras of WWE dominance — The Deadman’s legendary run and GUNTHER’s current ascent as one of the company’s most respected and punishing champions. With GUNTHER holding the World Heavyweight Title, the stakes would be sky-high.

The Undertaker was recently seen in Saudi Arabia for a boxing event and remains active with live speaking events scheduled through the rest of 2025. Whether or not he’ll lace up the boots again remains to be seen, but JBL’s comments have certainly reignited the conversation.
