Will Ospreay Confirms Surgery After Forbidden Door, Addresses Medical Clearance Concerns

Will Ospreay Confirms Surgery After Forbidden Door, Addresses Medical Clearance Concerns – Former AEW International Champion Will Ospreay has confirmed that he will undergo surgery following this Sunday’s AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view. Ospreay, who has been battling two herniated discs for the past ten months, revealed that the injury has been affecting his arm but emphasized that he is still cleared and able to compete.

During Wednesday’s Dynamite, Ospreay publicly stated that surgery will be required after the event. He later doubled down in an interview with Screen Off Script, explaining that while the issue is nerve-wracking, AEW’s medical team has ensured he can safely perform. “Everyone is comfortable with me going into this match,” Ospreay said, noting that while there is no set date for the surgery or return timeline, the situation is being closely managed.

Questions had been raised about how Ospreay was medically cleared to wrestle under these conditions. Speaking with Sports Illustrated, he explained that after All In, he was initially advised to rest, but further MRI scans revealed the injury was more severe than first thought. However, doctors assured him it was manageable. Ospreay emphasized that the discs “won’t get any worse” but must eventually be corrected.

“I have a huge medical team around me, and guys that work with AEW,” Ospreay told SI. “They would not allow me to go into the ring unless, if it was a huge percentage of a risk of me getting hurt. Like, honestly, do you think my wife would let me go in a ring if there’s a high chance of me dying?”

At Forbidden Door, Ospreay will team with Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kenny Omega, Darby Allin, and Kota Ibushi in an unsanctioned cage match against Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Gabe Kidd, and The Young Bucks.
