CM Punk Calls Wrestlepalooza Name “Ridiculous” – CM Punk has not held back his thoughts on WWE’s branding of its newest premium live event. During a recent appearance on the Pardon My Take podcast, Punk admitted that he finds the name Wrestlepalooza “ridiculous” and revealed he has been deliberately avoiding saying it while promoting the show.
Discussing WWE’s new partnership with ESPN, which will serve as the exclusive home for the company’s premium live events, Punk shared his blunt take on the name. “We’re trying to get everybody aware that you gotta get ESPN to see all our PLEs and I’ve been doing my best to not say the word Wrestlepalooza the entire time,” Punk said. “That might actually be the first time I’ve said it. It’s a ridiculous name.”
The Wrestlepalooza title is not entirely new to pro wrestling fans. ECW originally used the name for its series of events in the late 1990s, with the final show taking place in 2000. WWE’s decision to revive the moniker comes as part of a broader strategy to create another tentpole attraction alongside WrestleMania. Reports suggest that WWE sees Wrestlepalooza as a potential second WrestleMania-level spectacle, designed to anchor its annual schedule and serve as a flexible option for years when WrestleMania is held outside North America. The event’s debut airing on ESPN is central to that expansion plan.
Punk, meanwhile, will be featured in one of Wrestlepalooza’s most anticipated matches. He will team up with his wife, AJ Lee, to take on Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch in a mixed tag team bout. The match continues Punk’s heated rivalry with Rollins, which has been one of WWE’s main storylines since Punk’s return to the company in 2023.
