R-Truth Explains Why WWE Ended the Ron Killings Gimmick

R-Truth Explains Why WWE Ended the Ron Killings Gimmick – R-Truth has provided insight into why WWE decided to end his brief run as “Ron Killings,” a more serious version of his character that debuted earlier this year.

The veteran star reintroduced his NWA TNA persona at Money in the Bank 2025, where he confronted John Cena in a storyline that saw him use his real name and take on a rebellious edge. The feud was short-lived, however, as WWE reverted him back to his comedic R-Truth character following Cena’s babyface turn before SummerSlam.

Speaking on SHAK Wrestling, R-Truth explained that the Ron Killings persona achieved its purpose and was never meant to last long-term.

“Where it went to. It went where it was supposed to go to,” Truth said. “The Ron Killings (character) was created, he created R-Truth. You see what I’m saying? So it’s like those hundreds of millions of fans that spoke, that uproar, that they wanted R-Truth back.

“Ron Killings was the rebellion, the one that spoke up for R-Truth. Ron has been Ron ‘The Truth’ Killings, Ron Killings has been around for years. People grew up, like, generations. They never came together and locked it, like, they did that for R-Truth. You feel me?”

According to Truth, the gimmick was symbolic — a form of rebellion sparked by fan support after his brief release from WWE in June 2025. Once John Cena turned face again, the storyline naturally concluded, allowing R-Truth to return to his signature comedic style.

“So I wanted Ron Killings to go where he was supposed to go. He made the statement. He had the eyes on him and just like with storylines, when John Cena came back, R-Truth came back. Ron Killings just led the cavalry. That’s all that was.”

The angle may have been short-lived, but it reminded fans of R-Truth’s range as a performer — one who can shift seamlessly from humor to intensity when the story calls for it.
