Darby Allin Says He’s Open to Turning Heel in AEW – Darby Allin has long been one of AEW’s most popular babyfaces, but the former TNT Champion recently admitted that he’s open to exploring a heel run if the right opportunity comes along.
Speaking on The Maggie and Perloff Show, Allin discussed his mindset when it comes to his wrestling persona and how he approaches fan expectations. While he remains a fan favorite, Allin noted that his motivation in the ring has always been deeply personal.
“You know, honestly, it’s just wherever the wind takes me. And I feel a lot of fans, they’re always like, ‘Darby! You don’t have to go crazy anymore to impress us.’ I’m like, ‘I’m not doing it for you. I’m doing it for me.’ I actually love going out there and jumping off ladders or whatever it is I get myself into,” said Allin. “But I also on the flip side, I do see how fast the fans forget about you. I do see how quick they move on. Say if you got an injury or something, they’re, alright, what’s the next shiny toy?”
Allin explained that he understands how fickle fan attention can be, acknowledging that the audience often moves on quickly to new stars. This awareness, he said, makes the idea of a heel turn an intriguing possibility.
“So in that sense, I could see being a heel and just straight up being like, you are so ungrateful for what it is that we do. But at the end of the day, I don’t do it for them so I feel like you can’t get mad at them for that. But, who knows? Wherever the wind takes young Darby Allin. Maybe I will go rogue…”
While Allin isn’t teasing an imminent character shift, his comments suggest he’s open to reinventing himself in the future. For now, he continues to thrive as one of AEW’s most resilient and unpredictable babyfaces.
