Ethan Page Explains the Strategy Behind His Canadian Character Shift – Ethan Page has opened up about his recent on-screen shift to embrace his Canadian heritage, revealing that the move was partially strategic and timed with WWE’s expanding global reach.

The reigning NXT North American Champion and AAA Mixed Tag Team Champion appeared on The Mark Moses Show, where he discussed his decision to highlight his nationality more prominently on television. According to Page, the timing aligned perfectly with WWE’s new streaming distribution — especially its global expansion through Netflix.

“You know, I think it’s just a timing thing,” Page said. “I realized the opportunity with what the biggest deals that WWE has been making recently with streaming. We have our shows airing internationally live. So, in Netflix, in Canada, everyone from my home country is able to watch me live every Tuesday when NXT airs.”

He continued, “So in my home country, that’s huge, so why would I not want to show them that I’m supporting them throughout this entire experience? I would assume others from other countries feel the same, because again, we stream internationally on Netflix around the world. So this company has become even more global than before, and I found the timing to be absolutely perfect. Yes, it was mildly strategic, but what isn’t in wrestling?”

Outside of his evolving character, Page also has championship duties to focus on. Alongside Chelsea Green, his AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship reign will be tested at NXT Gold Rush on November 18. The duo, who captured the titles at AAA’s Alianzas event on November 2, will face Joe Hendry and Thea Hail after Hendry interrupted their victory celebration on NXT.

NXT Gold Rush will also feature several high-profile matches, including a TNA Knockouts World Championship triple threat between Kelani Jordan, Jordynne Grace, and Léi Yǐng Lee. Blake Monroe is also slated to defend her Women’s North American Championship against Sol Ruca if she’s medically cleared, while Zaria awaits the winner of a tournament final for the vacant Women’s Speed Championship.
