AEW Dynasty featured a major shift during the AEW Dynasty Trios Title match after an unexpected injury forced changes in the middle of the bout.
The match took place on April 12 at Rogers Arena, with Clark Connors, David Finlay, and Gabe Kidd defending the AEW World Trios Championships against Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, and a mystery partner who was revealed to be Kyle O’Reilly.
The bout was already drawing attention due to O’Reilly’s return, but the focus shifted when Kidd was removed from the match. According to Fightful Select, the injury occurred midway through the contest, prompting medical staff to escort him backstage.
“An unfortunate injury happened at AEW Dynasty. Gabe Kidd was removed from his Trios Title defense at AEW Dynasty. Midway through The Dogs title defense against the Conglomeration, Gabe Kidd was taken to the back by the AEW medical team. Those we spoke to at the show said he did appear to be injured upon arriving backstage.”
Additional details from the report indicated that Kidd appeared to be favoring his wrist as he exited.
“Kidd appeared to be holding his wrist during the exit. The rest of the match had to be called on an altered plan. We are working to find out if the match finish was changed at all.”
With Kidd out of the match, the remaining competitors continued under adjusted circumstances. Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, and Kyle O’Reilly ultimately secured the win to become the new AEW World Trios Champions.
There has been no official update yet on the severity of Kidd’s injury. However, the situation forced an immediate change to the match and could have an impact on the division depending on his recovery timeline.
