Asuka status with WWE remains unclear following her loss to IYO SKY at WWE Backlash, as there still appears to be uncertainty internally regarding what comes next for the former Women’s Champion.

Speculation increased immediately after the match due to the emotional interaction between Asuka and SKY once the bout ended. Many fans interpreted the moment as a possible farewell, leading to heavy discussion online and backstage about whether WWE was quietly writing Asuka off television.

Despite the rumors, there reportedly remains a strong belief within WWE that Asuka has not competed in her final match. While there have been different stories circulating internally — including talk of a temporary hiatus, personal time away, or even a semi-retirement situation — no definitive answer has emerged regarding her long-term plans.

At the same time, there were reportedly several backstage and social media interactions following WWE Backlash that carried the tone of a farewell. Those moments only added more uncertainty to the situation, especially since there does not appear to be complete clarity internally either.

The situation also reportedly led to frustration among some backstage personnel regarding the recent release of Kairi Sane. According to reports, there was disappointment over the amount of television time WWE invested into the storyline involving Asuka and Kairi without ultimately giving Kairi’s side of the angle a meaningful payoff before her departure.

As things currently stand, WWE officials reportedly have not made Asuka’s next move publicly clear, and there is still no firm indication regarding when or if she will return to television.
