Backstage News On WWE Cutting Time From 7/7 SmackDown Segments – 7/7 WWE SmackDown opened with the Trial of the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns, a segment that went nearly 40 minutes long.
PWInsider reports the segment ran longer than originally planned, leading to “a ripple effect where later segments had their time cut to fit the FOX broadcast.”
The report noted the AJ Styles vs. Karrion Kross bout was originally set to go longer than it actually did, while one source believed Asuka’s segment went faster than originally planned. The same source believed there may have been other segments with time cut as well.
Since Vince McMahon was backstage at the show, many believes he made several changes and cuts to the show. However, PWI reports that McMahon did not make any major changes to SmackDown, something he has been doing more often as of late at the last minute.
The report noted, “any changes were minimal as the original plans for the show stayed basically intact with the exception of some time cuts.”
It is believed that McMahon’s influence on WWE creative will likely grow as the Endeavor Group’s acquisition of WWE gets closer, something expected later this year.
Triple H and Bruce Prichard were backstage. McMahon was said to have spent the entire day in his office.
