Backtage News from Tonight’s NXT and Dynamite Shows – AEW and NXT went head-to-head in a fierce battle earlier in the evening, delivering two incredible shows that aimed to outdo each other. Here are some backstage notes for both AEW and NXT, as reported by Fightful Select:
- AEW had already locked in the decision to open this edition of Dynamite with Sweve Strickland vs. Bryan Danielson by the previous Monday.
- Many regular attendees of NXT were left empty-handed in their attempts to secure tickets for this week’s show due to the unprecedented demand. WWE sources indicated that this episode generated the highest demand they’ve ever seen for a mid-week NXT program at the Performance Center.
- AEW seemed to be aware that Jon Moxley would be unable to compete against Rey Fenix earlier in the afternoon. He was replaced by Orange Cassidy, who went on to win the International Championship for the second time.
- Both AEW and WWE sources confirmed that they held strong confidence in the shows they presented on this night. Both promotions were also making last-minute changes and additions to their respective cards as of the day before the shows.
- AEW Dynamite managed to go a remarkable 45 minutes without a commercial break, while NXT’s commercial-free segment lasted 29 minutes.
- During commercial breaks, John Cena, in a spontaneous and heartwarming gesture, jumped the rail to take as many selfies as possible with the enthusiastic crowd.
