Brian Cage made his return to AEW on the May 14 episode of AEW Dynamite, ending a lengthy absence due to injury.
Cage appeared as the surprise challenger for Kevin Knight’s TNT Championship open challenge. Despite a competitive showing, Cage ultimately suffered a loss in his return match.
He was accompanied to the ring by members of the Don Callis Family, including Lance Archer, Rocky Romero, and Trent Beretta, confirming that his alliance with the group remains intact.
Cage had been sidelined after last appearing on the March 19 episode of AEW Collision, where he competed in a trios match. Shortly after that appearance, he wrestled on the independent scene but suffered a serious knee injury in a match against Chris Masters that required surgery.
He has since returned to in-ring competition on the independent circuit and has worked a small number of matches as part of his recovery and return process before stepping back into AEW.
Cage originally debuted in AEW at Double or Nothing 2020, entering a Casino Ladder Match. Since joining the company, he has not captured an official AEW championship, though he held the FTW Championship during its ceremonial run and has also held titles in ROH, including the Television Championship and Six-Man Tag Team Championships.
His return adds another physical presence back into AEW’s roster as he looks to regain momentum following his injury setback.
