Carmelo Hayes is not holding back when it comes to his absence from WrestleMania 42, but he is staying focused on being ready when his next opportunity comes.
After losing the United States Championship to Sami Zayn on the March 27 episode of SmackDown, Hayes was unable to regain the title in a rematch the following week. That result effectively removed him from the WrestleMania picture, while Zayn moved forward to defend the championship against Trick Williams at the event.
Speaking on Nightcap, Hayes addressed how he is handling missing WrestleMania and what keeps him motivated despite not being on the card.
“I feel like it’s staying ready and just knowing I’m talented enough to, if they give me the ball, it’s guaranteed. That’s really what my mentality has always been.”
He compared WWE success to sports, explaining that ability alone is not enough without being given a real chance to perform.
“You ever heard that phrase ‘success is not earned it’s given’, I feel like that’s a lot with WWE, anybody really, until they give you the ball how will they know if you can score, until they put you on the field how do they know if you can make a play.”
Hayes made it clear that patience is part of the process, even when it means missing major opportunities like WrestleMania.
“I think that’s really what it comes down to with what we do is waiting for the ball, or waiting for them to put you in.”
Missing WrestleMania for the second straight year is a setback for Hayes, especially after being heavily involved in the United States Championship scene. However, his comments show that he remains confident in his ability and is prepared for when that opportunity arrives.
For now, Hayes is staying ready, believing that when WWE finally gives him the chance, he will deliver at the highest level.
