CM Punk Comments on Being Part of John Cena's Retirement Tour

CM Punk Comments on Being Part of John Cena’s Retirement Tour – CM Punk recently opened up about sharing one more memorable moment with John Cena as the 16-time world champion begins his retirement tour.

During the early 2010s, Punk and Cena stood on opposite ends of WWE’s main event scene, creating one of the most iconic rivalries of that era. Their differing philosophies and personalities led to frequent comparisons, with Paul Heyman once likening them to Batman and the Joker. The two reignited that dynamic earlier this year when Punk spoofed Cena’s “Doctor of Thuganomics” persona in a parody segment leading up to WWE Night of Champions. The storyline culminated in Cena retaining the Undisputed WWE Championship against Punk.

Speaking during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Punk admitted he’s become more sentimental with age and reflected on how meaningful it was to be part of Cena’s final run.

“I’ve been fortunate to have a pretty long career filled with a lot of great moments. I think that’s just another one. My storied history with Cena, and for it to be wrapping up for him. I mean, he’s only got, like, 14 to 15 dates left. To be able to be in his orbit during his retirement and get to do fun stuff like that, it meant a lot to me. I’m turning very, very soft in my old age, so I am always just overflowing with gratitude. That moment was absolutely no different. It was a little bit different. It was fun. Obviously, I think we’re in the business of creating moments. So again, super grateful I still can do that and contribute at this level.”

Cena’s farewell tour continues in 2025, and Punk appears content simply being part of those final chapters.
