Danhausen’s arrival in WWE may not have happened by chance. A new report indicates that CM Punk played a key role in helping bring the former AEW star into the company.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Punk “spearheaded” the idea of WWE signing Danhausen. The report states that Punk was a major voice behind the move, suggesting the signing was strongly supported by one of the company’s top stars.
Danhausen recently made his first appearances on WWE programming following a surprise moment at the Elimination Chamber event in Chicago. During the show, he emerged from a mystery crate in a segment that quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the night.
Following that appearance, Danhausen showed up again during the March 2 episode of WWE RAW. However, WWE chose to introduce him in a limited way rather than placing him in a lengthy in-ring segment in front of the live crowd.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that this approach was intentional. WWE reportedly wanted to test how audiences would respond to the character before giving him a more prominent role on television.
During his WWE RAW appearance, Danhausen appeared backstage during a segment involving The Judgment Day. In the segment, he placed what he described as a “curse” on Dominik Mysterio.
Later that same night, Dominik Mysterio lost the Intercontinental Championship to Penta. The timing of the events led many fans online to joke that Danhausen’s curse might have played a role in the title change.
The decision to carefully introduce Danhausen suggests that WWE is taking a cautious approach with the character early in his run. By first featuring him in backstage segments and smaller appearances, the company can evaluate fan reactions before expanding his role on television.
With CM Punk pushing for the signing and WWE already testing how the character connects with viewers, the company appears to be taking a calculated approach to Danhausen’s debut. Whether this will lead to a long-term role on WWE RAW remains to be seen as WWE continues to develop plans for the “very nice, very evil” performer.
