CM Punk Says He’s Nearing the End of His Career – CM Punk has openly admitted that his time as a full-time WWE competitor may soon be coming to an end. Despite returning to the company less than a year ago after nearly a decade away, the 46-year-old veteran acknowledged that his in-ring career is entering its final stretch.

Since coming back from the injury he sustained at the 2024 Royal Rumble, Punk has been featured at the top of WWE’s main event scene. He briefly held the World Heavyweight Championship after SummerSlam before losing it when Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract.

Speaking during WWE’s tour of Japan, Punk reflected on his career and the wave of retirements happening across the wrestling world. “So I’m standing here now, near the end of my career,” Punk said. “John Cena’s calling it quits, AJ Styles says he’s going to retire next year, and I don’t know how much time I’ve got left. I’m going to keep going until the wheels fall off.”

Punk explained that he’s focused on appreciating the present moment and honoring the legacy of his peers. “I know that’s sooner rather than later,” he added. “That’s why I think it’s important, for all of us, not just me, to celebrate every wrestler as they retire. There’s a whole new generation of talent coming in to take our place, and in a way, we’re excited to see that happen.”

Punk’s return to WWE in late 2023 followed a tumultuous period in AEW that included injuries and a backstage incident after All Out 2022. His comeback at Survivor Series 2023 marked one of WWE’s biggest surprises in years, though another injury at the 2024 Royal Rumble sidelined him for several months. After missing WrestleMania XL, Punk rebounded strongly in 2025, main-eventing WrestleMania and teaming with his wife, AJ Lee, in a memorable tag match.

Punk is currently set to face Jey Uso for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship at next week’s WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, which could mark one of the last title opportunities of his storied career.
