Cody Rhodes Crowned 2025 King of the Ring at WWE Night of Champions – Cody Rhodes has officially added another accolade to his storied WWE career. At WWE Night of Champions in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Rhodes overcame Randy Orton in a hard-fought battle to become the 2025 King of the Ring.
The match opened with a show of mutual respect as both men locked up and Cody gave a clean break in the corner. Orton countered with a hammerlock and side headlock, followed by a shoulder tackle. Early exchanges featured smooth technical wrestling, wrist locks, and chain grappling, with neither man able to secure a lasting advantage.
Momentum shifted when Orton nailed a superplex, though he appeared to tweak his back on impact. Cody fought back with a Beautiful Disaster kick and a missile dropkick for a near fall. After a flurry of counters, Cody delivered a Cody Cutter from the top rope but still couldn’t put Orton away. The Viper returned fire with a hanging DDT and lined up for an RKO, but Cody evaded and hit CrossRhodes—only for Orton to kick out.
Orton then connected with his own RKO for a dramatic near fall. As emotions flared, Orton grabbed a steel chair, but the referee intervened. During the distraction, Orton removed a turnbuckle pad, though both men initially avoided being whipped into it.
After a wild exchange of forearms and reversals, Orton tried to repeat his earlier success with an RKO, catching Cody during a Cody Cutter attempt. But even that wasn’t enough to finish the match. In the end, Cody reversed the momentum, sending Orton into the exposed turnbuckle ribs-first and immediately following up with a second CrossRhodes to seal the victory.
Post-match, Cody was presented with the King of the Ring crown by WWE officials Nick Aldis and Adam Pearce. The moment marked a major milestone in Rhodes’ WWE career, with Byron Saxton entering the ring for a celebratory interview.
Cody paid tribute to Orton, saying, “I have to thank Randy Orton. I have nothing but respect for the man who mentored me and stood up for me.” He then acknowledged the fans and recent challengers: “I hear you. First Jey Uso, then Randy Orton. At SummerSlam, I face CM Punk or John Cena.”
Rhodes ended his promo with a declaration of intent: “I was born to do this. They’re holding on to that title for me. At SummerSlam, I get the ball back.”
This marks a major development on the road to WWE SummerSlam, as Cody now earns the right to challenge either John Cena or CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship. That title match will depend on the outcome of Cena vs. Punk later at Night of Champions.
Cody Rhodes’ coronation adds a new chapter to his redemption arc after narrowly missing out on championship gold at WrestleMania 41. With the crown now in his possession, the American Nightmare has both momentum and destiny on his side heading into the summer’s biggest event.
