Cody Rhodes Retains Against Drew McIntyre at Saturday Night’s Main Event – Kicking off WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event in Salt Lake City, Utah, Cody Rhodes successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre in a heated opener that lived up to its high stakes. The bout was contested under special stipulations added on the October 31 episode of SmackDown, which stated that Rhodes could lose his title by disqualification or countout.

The match opened with technical exchanges, as McIntyre and Rhodes grappled for control. McIntyre took the advantage with a back elbow and a knee to the midsection, but Rhodes fought back with punches and kicks in the corner. The physicality escalated with both men trading chops until Rhodes landed a delayed gourdbuster that sent McIntyre to the floor. Drew tried to bait Cody into a countout, but Rhodes stayed disciplined and refused to leave the ring.

McIntyre’s aggression increased as he used the referee as a distraction to strike Cody’s knee and later sent him shoulder-first into the ring post. The challenger followed by throwing Rhodes over the barricade, nearly earning a countout victory before Cody made it back to the ring. McIntyre kept control with suplexes, chops, and power offense, including a spinebuster and a sit-out powerbomb for near falls.

Rhodes rallied back with a power slam, a Beautiful Disaster kick, and a twisting Cody Cutter that nearly sealed the win. After hitting a bionic elbow, Rhodes seemed to have momentum, but McIntyre countered with a spinebuster and a near fall off a jumping boot after a tense belt exchange.

Outside the ring, McIntyre sent Rhodes crashing through the announce table with a shoulder tackle, but Cody narrowly beat the count. Back in the ring, Drew set up for a Claymore, only for Rhodes to counter with a double-jump Cody Cutter. After the referee was accidentally taken out, McIntyre tried to use the championship belt, but Rhodes avoided the strike. Both men collided mid-air with crossbody attempts, leading to a dramatic finish as they crawled toward the title.

Rhodes ultimately struck first, delivering a DDT onto the belt before hitting Cross Rhodes to score the pinfall and retain his Undisputed WWE Championship.
