Cody Rhodes Sidelined With Orbital Injury After WrestleMania 42 Attack

Cody Rhodes did not have long to celebrate his WrestleMania 42 victory, as the Undisputed WWE Champion is now dealing with injuries that have taken him off schedule.

After defeating Randy Orton in the main event of WrestleMania 42 Saturday to retain his title, Rhodes was attacked moments after the match. Orton blindsided him, striking him with the championship belt before delivering a punt kick.

The aftermath quickly became clear.

WWE later released backstage footage showing Rhodes being checked by medical staff. His left eye was visibly swollen shut following the attack, highlighting the damage from the closing moments of the segment.

An update aired during the WrestleMania 42 Sunday Kickoff show on April 19, where Jackie Redmond confirmed that Rhodes has not been medically cleared. The report noted that he is dealing with an orbital injury. In addition, Rhodes required staples in the back of his head, and there is currently no confirmed timetable for his return.

The injury has already impacted his schedule. Rhodes was pulled from a planned WWE World appearance on April 19 as a result of the situation.

It has also been noted that the damage to Rhodes’ eye came from a direct punch by Orton during their WrestleMania main event. The strike connected clean and contributed to the condition that is now keeping the champion out of action.

Rhodes remains Undisputed WWE Champion, but his immediate future is uncertain as he recovers from the injuries suffered during and after WrestleMania.
