Dominik Mysterio Channels Eddie Guerrero to Retain at Saturday Night’s Main Event – Dominik Mysterio once again lived up to his “Dirty Dom” reputation at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The reigning Intercontinental Champion used every underhanded trick in the book to retain his title against Penta and Rusev in a wild triple threat encounter that paid tribute to the late Eddie Guerrero’s legacy of “lie, cheat, and steal.”
The bout took place third on the card, following Jade Cargill’s WWE Women’s Championship victory. From the opening bell, the tension was high as both challengers—Rusev and Penta—made it clear they were tired of Dominik’s antics and determined to take the gold. Despite occasional double-teaming on the champion, their mutual desire for the title quickly dissolved any form of alliance.
Early on, Rusev dominated Mysterio with powerful strikes and even paused mid-match to taunt him by kissing the Intercontinental Title. Penta broke Rusev’s momentum with a well-timed dive, and Dominik followed up with a suicide dive of his own, showing flashes of the high-risk tactics that earned him the championship at WrestleMania.
The action reached a turning point when Rusev caught Dominik mid–6-1-9 attempt and locked him in the Accolade, only for Penta to deliver a kick to Rusev’s head to break the hold. Mysterio rolled outside to recover while the challengers exchanged near falls.
Returning to the ring, Dominik tried to pull one of his signature tricks—handing Rusev a steel chair and faking an injury to get a disqualification. The referee, however, reminded him that there are no disqualifications in a triple threat match, prompting Rusev to turn the chair on Dominik instead. The chaos continued as Penta hit a Mexican Destroyer on Rusev for a close two-count, followed by another near fall after landing a pumphandle slam.
Penta climbed to the top rope, but Rusev countered with a Machka Kick before locking in the Accolade again. As the bell rang, Rusev released the hold thinking he had won—only to realize that Dominik had struck the bell himself and armed himself with the hammer. In the confusion, Rusev went after Dominik at ringside, but the champion sent him crashing into the steel steps.
Back inside, Penta struck Rusev with the bell hammer, only for Dominik to capitalize—throwing Penta out of the ring and hitting a frog splash to steal the victory and retain his Intercontinental Championship.
The result keeps Mysterio’s controversial title reign alive and adds intrigue to the division, especially amid reports that WWE has internally discussed a potential future run for John Cena with the Intercontinental championship—a reign that could serve as a fitting finale for the legendary star.
