Drew McIntyre Reacts to Controversial Loss at SNME – Drew McIntyre’s quest for the Undisputed WWE Championship ended in frustration once again at Saturday Night’s Main Event, where he fell short against Cody Rhodes in a bout that ended with controversy.
During the match, both men battled back and forth in a hard-hitting contest until the referee was accidentally knocked down. Taking advantage of the situation, Rhodes struck McIntyre with a DDT onto the title belt before following up with a Cross Rhodes to score the pinfall and retain his championship. The result immediately drew backlash from fans who felt McIntyre had been robbed of a fair outcome.
Following the event, McIntyre took to X to express his anger in a cryptic but pointed way. Instead of issuing a statement, he posted the viral clip of Cody Rhodes recalling a story about Ted DiBiase Jr., where DiBiase complained after a match, saying, “The referee was trying to fuck on him.” The post was widely seen as McIntyre’s way of implying that officiating once again cost him a major victory.
The loss continues what has been a tough year for McIntyre in high-profile matches. His 2025 campaign began with a loss to Jey Uso on the RAW premiere on Netflix, followed by an early elimination from the Royal Rumble by Damian Priest. After moving to SmackDown, McIntyre entered the Elimination Chamber but was the first man eliminated—again by Priest. Although he defeated Priest in a Sin City Street Fight at WrestleMania 41, that win didn’t reignite his momentum.
He later failed to capture the United States Championship at Backlash and lost a Steel Cage match to Priest at Saturday Night’s Main Event in May. Following a short hiatus, McIntyre returned in July but suffered another defeat, this time to Randy Orton.
His ongoing rivalry with Cody Rhodes began after SummerSlam, when McIntyre teamed with Logan Paul in a winning effort. Six nights later, however, the two lost to Rhodes and John Cena by disqualification, leading to McIntyre attacking Rhodes afterward. That incident sparked a heated feud culminating in two consecutive title match losses—first at Wrestlepalooza and now again at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
McIntyre’s social media reaction suggests this rivalry with Rhodes is far from over, and fans may not have seen the last chapter in their escalating battle for the top prize in WWE.
