With the match tied at one fall each, the steel cage descended upon the ring for the final stage of the match. The men battled back-and-forth, with McIntyre making multiple attempts to escape the cage through the door, as well as over the top. When Rhodes tried to climb over the cage, McIntyre caught him in a big suplex off the top rope.
Rhodes hit another Cross Rhodes, this time in the middle of the ring, but McIntyre kicked out. He hit a Cody Cutter, followed by two Cross Rhodes, but McIntyre countered the third with a thumb to the eye. McIntyre hit another Claymore, but Rhodes kicked out, and McIntyre tried to escape over the top of the cage once again. Rhodes knocked him off, then hit a super Cody Cutter from the top of the cage.
When McIntyre tried to escape through the door once again, he was met by a returning Fatu, who believed McIntyre to be the mystery attacker who took him out back in October. “The Samoan Werewolf” beat down McIntyre and Rhodes attempted to confront him and caught a beat down for his troubles. While Fatu and Rhodes were brawling in the corner, McIntyre was able to escape the cage through the door to become Undisputed WWE Champion, as Fatu looked on from the ring in disbelief.
