Former AEW Coach Slams AEW WrestleDream’s Controversial Aquarium Spot – Former AEW coach and producer Sarah Stock has publicly condemned a controversial moment from the main event of AEW’s WrestleDream pay-per-view, raising serious concerns about its potential impact on young viewers. The match in question—a brutal “I Quit” bout between Jon Moxley and Darby Allin—featured a shocking sequence where Moxley and his faction, the Death Riders, introduced a water-filled aquarium tank into the ring. In a disturbing visual, Moxley was shown forcibly submerging Allin’s head underwater, a move that Stock likened to attempted murder.
Stock, who wrestled under the names Sarita and Dark Angel, took to social media to voice her disapproval. “Anytime I see attempted murder in wrestling without a disclaimer, regardless of the company, my opinion remains the same: it’s dumb,” she wrote. She further warned that such depictions, especially when presented without context or caution, could lead to dangerous imitation by children. “This is worse than the plastic bag over the head. Kids are going to end up dead trying this stuff at home,” she added.
The aquarium stunt was integral to the match’s climax. As Moxley held Allin submerged, the arena lights suddenly went dark. When they came back on, Sting had appeared in the ring. He attacked the Death Riders and shattered the aquarium glass with his signature baseball bat, freeing Allin. This dramatic interference allowed Allin to rally and ultimately force Moxley to quit, securing the victory.
While the segment was praised by some fans for its cinematic flair and unpredictability, it has sparked a broader debate about the boundaries of wrestling storytelling. Stock’s criticism highlights the tension between creative freedom and social responsibility, especially in a medium that often blurs the line between fiction and reality.
Sarah Stock joined AEW in March 2023 as a coach and producer, bringing years of experience from her previous tenure with WWE from 2015 to 2020. Her background as both a performer and backstage contributor lends weight to her concerns, particularly regarding the influence wrestling can have on impressionable audiences.
