Following a successful title defense over Mina Shirakawa, AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla will pivot her attention to a familiar foe, Jamie Hayter, at AEW Dynasty.
During Wednesday’s edition of “AEW Dynamite,” Shirakawa, Hayter, and Alex Windsor picked up a big tag team victory over the Triangle of Madness (Thekla, Julia Hart, and Skye Blue). On “AEW Collision,” Hayter then laid out a personal challenge for Thekla and the coveted title sitting around her waist.
“I’ve been AEW Women’s World Champion before and it got ripped away from me, as we all know, and it’s just eluded me ever since,” Hayter said in a backstage segment. “We’re spending a lot of time in Canada, though, and this seems like the place where people love to brawl. So having said that, Thekla, for someone so small, you have an awfully big mouth. A mouth you run like nobody can handle you, but I’ve beaten you once and I’ll do it again [at] Dynasty.”
Following Hayter’s statements, AEW confirmed that she would indeed challenge Thekla for the AEW Women’s Championship at Dynasty, which will emanate from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on April 12. Hayter’s rivalry with Thekla extends back to May 2025, when “The Toxic Spider” ambushed the Brit in her official AEW debut. Hayter later returned the favor upon her television return at AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door.
In the ring, Hayter and Thekla have squared off once in singles competition, with the former emerging victorious at AEW WrestleDream. Dynasty will mark their second overall singles affair, but first involving a championship.
