Kevin Nash Questions Why Randy Orton Isn’t Pushed More in WWE Title Picture – WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash recently offered his perspective on why Randy Orton has not been featured more prominently in the WWE World Championship picture, despite having one of the most accomplished résumés in company history. Speaking on the latest episode of Kliq This, Nash suggested that Orton’s own mindset and approach to the business may be the primary reason.
During a broader discussion about WWE’s current landscape and top stars such as Roman Reigns, Nash shifted focus to Orton and questioned why the 14-time World Champion has not been positioned for another major title run.
“I don’t know why they haven’t used Randy,” Nash said. “I think when you look at Randy’s body of work as the youngest champion, and how long he’s been there… he’s got 14 World Championships. It would take nothing for him to become an 18-time champion and surpass the 17.”
Nash pointed out that Orton has a realistic path to breaking the all-time world title record held by Ric Flair and John Cena, yet there has been no visible push in that direction. According to Nash, that may be because Orton is not actively campaigning for the spotlight behind the scenes.
“Randy’s never been a mark,” Nash explained. “That’s probably Randy’s biggest drawback. Randy just wants to get paid, hang out with his wife and kids, and if you don’t have a spot for me, and you’re still gonna pay me and I can sit at home… I’m cool.”
Nash contrasted Orton’s mindset with that of performers who view championship reigns as personal validation. Instead, he described Orton as someone who treats wrestling strictly as a business. Nash attributed that mentality to Orton being a second-generation wrestler and growing up around the industry through his father, WWE Hall of Famer “Cowboy” Bob Orton.
“He grew up in that, watching his dad work with Andre,” Nash said.
To further illustrate the toughness and no-nonsense mentality of the Orton family, Nash shared a story about encountering Bob Orton at a wrestling event shortly after major surgery.
“He said, ‘I ain’t getting around too good… I’m in pain,’” Nash recalled. “I said, ‘Why? What’s up?’ He goes, ‘Last week I got my knees replaced.’”
Nash said he was stunned to see Bob Orton casually drinking at a bar just a week after double knee replacement surgery.
“Motherfucker had his knees replaced a week ago and he’s sitting there with his feet up,” Nash said. “They were a different breed.”
While Randy Orton continues to be a consistent presence on WWE television, Nash believes his legacy is already secure. From Nash’s perspective, Orton’s willingness to step aside, remain professional, and collect a paycheck without demanding top billing separates him from others who constantly chase the spotlight. As Nash summed it up, channeling Orton’s mindset, “If I can go to the gym in my house, I’m cool.”
