WWE RAW Results (5/8) – Tonight’s WWE Raw begins with a video hyping the World Heavyweight Title Tournament.

We are live from the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, as Cody Rhodes makes his way to the ring and he has something to say.

Cody plays to the crowd by throwing out a DUVAL before asking what they wanted to talk to.  Cody says this was his home during the pandemic and he says they made some wonderful memories and it is time to make some new memories tonight.  Cody wants to talk about Backlash.  He says it was the most watched Backlash.  All of the pomp and all of the circumstance.  He had to compete against Brock Lesnar.  He says this is what he discovered.  He found out what Brock is made up because it was all over his fists.  He says Brock can be defeated because at Backlash he defeated Brocck.  The night after Wrestlemania, Brock took away his focus and clarity.  It was a fight for survival.  Now that Brock is in the rear view mirror, what is in front of him is sitting over there, and it is the World Championship.  

Cody says he wants to talk about Night of Champions.  Cody asks for them to show the tournament bracket.  He says multiple world champions and some of the biggest stars in the business.  Cody says he will fight the same way in this tournament until Samantha announces that he is the new World Champion.  Cody says he has the honor to say ‘Let the Tournament begin’.

Seth Rollins comes out and he stops by Cody before he ‘dances’ to the ring. The Damian Priest will be out next but first… We go to commercial.

Backstage:

Cathy Kelley is with Damian Priest in the back. She asks if the loss on Saturday at WWE Backlash is weighing on him. Priest says Bad Bunny did his thing, but after a brutal San Juan STreet Fight, the name that will live is his beacuse an entire island took him down.  By himself, he will take down Shinsuke Nakamura and Seth Rollins.  Then we will see if it is him or Finn Balor who bring the World Championship to The Judgment Day.

Damian Priest makes his way to the ring followed by Shinsuke Nakamura and we are ready for our first match of the night!

World Heavyweight Title Tournament First Round Triple Threat
Damian Priest vs. Seth Rollins vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Priest with forearms to Nakamura and Rollins.  Priest with punches to Rollins in the corner and then he kicks Nakamura.  Priest with a back elbow into the corner.  Nakamura with knees and forearms followed by a round kick.  Rollins with a knee to send Priest to the floor.  They lock up and they go to a stalemate.  Nakamura pushes Rollins away on another lock up.  Nakamura with a waist lock and Rollins with an elbow.  Nakamura iwth a knee and kick followed by a sliding kick to the head.  Nakamura puts Rollins in the ropes and hits a sliding German suplex.  Priest misses a boot and Nakamura kicks Priest in the leg and hits a running knee to the head.  Nakamura with a knee drop off the apron to the back of the head.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Priest and Rollins exchange forearms until Rollins takes the advantage.  Rollins with a flatliner to Nakamura into the turnbuckles.  Rollins with a forearm from the apron and a cross body onto Nakamura and Priest.  Rollins with a suicide dive to Priest and then he goes to the other side and hits one on Nakamura.  Rollins goes for one on Priest and Priest with a forearm arm.  Priest with an elbow into the corner and Rollins goes to the floor.  Nakamura with punches and kicks to Priest.  Priest misses an elbow into the corner.  Nakamura puts Priest on the turnbuckles and hits a running knee.  Nakamura goes to the turnbuckles for a flying side kick and a near fall.  

Nakamura with a waist lock and Rollins with an O’Connor Roll on Nakamura for a near fall.  Priest sends Rollins to the apron and then he connects with a forearm to Nakamura.  Priest catches Rollins off the ropes and hits a leaping flatliner for a near fall.  Nakamura and Priest with boots at the same time.  Rollins with a super kick to Priest and Nakamura with a spinning heel kick to Rollins and all three men are down.  Rollins with chops to Nakamura and Priest.  They all exchange forearms and chops.  Priest with knees to Rollins and Nakamura blocks a kick from Priest and hits a thrust kick to the knee.  Nakamura with a sleeper to Rollins and a knee to keep Seth from getting to the ropes.  Rollins lands on his feet on a reverse exploder.  Seth with a rolling elbow to Nakamura.  Seth goes up top and Priest crotches Rollins.  Priest sets for a Razor’s Edge but Priest’s knee gives out.

Rollins with Black Out and Nakamura breaks up the cover.  Seth yells at Nakamura for breaking up the cover and Nakamura tells Rollins to COME ON.  They exchange forearms.  Nakamura with a flurry of forearms and punches.  Rollins with a rolling elbow and he misses KO.  Nakamura with a reverse exploder.  Nakamura sets for Kinshasa but Priest with a clothesline to Nakamura and he sends Rollins to the floor.  Nakamura with a knee to stop South of Heaven.  Nakamura with a rollthrough into a knee bar.  Priest tries to fight off the urge to tap since he cannot use the ropes.  Rollins with a frog splash onto Nakamura followed by a Pedigree for the three count. Are you surprised?

Winner:  Seth Rollins (advances to the Raw Finals)

Backstage:

Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci walk in the back and they announce they are here and Vinci says that Gunther will be here next week. They see Kevin and Sami. Kevin says they were talking. Kaiser says they are here and the Ring General… Sami says they are in the middle of something important and they ask for five minutes. Vinci says they do not deal with disrespect. Sami says they will still be Imperium in five minutes.  He asks them to come back and they can talk. Kevin says they are standing right there and it is hard to focus with his finger in his face. Kaiser says when the Ring General arrives next week, it will put the two of you in a difficult situation.  Vinci says if you continue to disrespect us, you will not only put yourself but your titles in danger. Kevin asks if they are Gunther’s henchmen like the Usos being Roman’s henchmen.  Kevin wonders why does everyone need henchmen. Sami says they are different than the Usos because they will deal with it in one night.  They will do it tonight.

We go to commercial.

Otis vs. Mustafa Ali

They lock up and Ali gets on Otis’ back and applies a sleeper.  Otis with a snap mare to escape.  Ali with a drop kick and Otis stays on his feet.  Ali with a second drop kick with the same result.  Otis with a clothesline.  Otis presses Ali over his head and Ali gets to his feet and he punches Otis.  Otis sends Ali to the apron.  Ali with a shoulder and he flips over Otis to get back into the ring.  Otis with a clothesline.Otis with a splash to the corner.  Otis is torn between advice from Chad and Maxxine about whether to do the caterpillar.

Otis misses a shoulder in the corner and hits the ring post.  Ali with a 450 splash for the three count.

Winner:  Mustafa Ali

Backstage:

Miz is in the back and he says you are looking at a two time grand slam winner and he says he is a history maker.  He is the true workhorse in this tournament.  When he wins the chamiponship and you will put respect on his name.

Miz heads to the ring as we go to commercial.

Cody Rhodes vs. The Miz vs. Finn Balor

Miz misses a punch on Miz and Cody with punches to Balor and Miz.  Cody gets a near fall on Miz and he sends Miz to the floor.  Finn with a clothesline and he gets a near fall on Cody.  Miz with a rollup on Finn.  Cody with a side Russian leg sweep to Miz and then he hits a gourdbuster on Finn onto Miz.  Cody gets a near fall on Miz.  Cody with a suicide dive to Miz and Balor.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Cody with a double missile drop kick.  Cody punches Balor and Miz.  Cody with kicks to Miz and Balor followed by a double uppercut.  Cody with a running forearm to Miz and he floats over and hits a power slam on Balor and then Miz.  Cody with a double CodyCutter.  Cody holds his shoulder as he gets up.  Cody sets for CrossRhodes but Balor with a reversal but Cody escapes and hits Beautiful Disaster on Finn for a near fall.  Cody sets for a power bomb but Finn escapes and he takes Cody down but misses a double stomp.  Miz with a double DDT on Cody and Finn and he gets a near fall on Cody.  Miz goes for Skull Crushing Finale but Cody with a snap mare.  Balor with slingblade and Miz is sent to the floor.  Finn with an elevated elbow drop to Cody for a near fall.  Balor with a running drop kick and he misses Coup de Grace.  Miz sends Finn into Cody on the apron and Miz with Skull Crushing Finale on Balor but Cody breaks it up.

Cody sends Miz to the floor.  Cody sets for CrossRhodes but Balor with an inside cradle for a enar fall.  Cody finally hits CrossRhodes but Miz sends Cody to the floro but Cody holds on to the ropes and gets back in the ring to break up the covver and Cody with three CrossRhodes on Miz but Brock pulls Cody out of the ring and hits an F5 on Cody on the floor.  Finn with Coup de Grace for the three count.

Winner:  Finn Balor (advances to Raw Finals)

After the match, Brock gives Cody an F5 through the announce table.

Brock takes the mic and he asks Cody what does he want to talk about.  Brock says to look at this face and wants to know what Cody wants to talk about.  You want to talk about him.  Brock says he wants to talk about him.  You lucked into the victory on Saturday.  Brock says he wants to talk about a fight.  Brock says he wants a fight.  You, me, Night of Champions.  He asks Cody what does he have to say about that.  Brock asks who is the coward now…

Officials come over to check on Cody now that Brock has left the area.

We go to commercial.

– We are back with a Moments Ago Moment of Brock Lesnar taking out his frustration over losing on Saturday on Cody when he appeared to have his first round match won.  

– Cody is being helped in the back and he is taken into the trainer’s room.

Rhea Ripley vs. Dana Brooke

Before the match, Dana says she asked for this opportunity and she welcomes this challenge.  You will see the untapped potential of Dana Brooke.

Dana with punches but Rhea with a kick and punches.  Rhea slams Dana’s face into the mat and she works on the back.  Dana avoids Rhea and she hits Rhea in the back of the leg.  Dana with a facebuster and a wheelbarrow into a bulldog.  Dana goes to the turnbuckles for a cross body but Rhea catches Dana and htis a gutbuster.  Rhea with RipTide and she stands over Dana and puts her in the reverse cloverleaf and Dana taps out.

Winner:  Rhea Ripley

After the match, Rhea picks up Dana and hits RipTide on Dana.  Rhea puts Dana in the Prism Lock.  Natalya’s music plays and she makes her way to the ring but Rhea is not going to let go of the hold as Natalya takes her time to get to the ring. Natalya and Rhea go face to face and Dom whispers something to Rhea. Rhea leaves the ring without any physical interaction.

– We have a video package for all of the NXT talents who were drafted.

Backstage:

Byron Saxton is in the back with Zoey Stark. Byron asks Zoey how will she handle the expectations. Zoey says she is amazing at what she does.  These other women… Zoey see something and wants Byron to come with her. We see a distracted Nikki Cross and Zoey asks her what is she doing. No answer, so Zoey says this is why she is going to succeed.  There are all these weirdos on Raw.  Zoey challenges Nikki to a match and Nikki agrees to it. Maybe.

– Sami Zayin and Kevin Owens head to the ring as we go to commercial.

Kevin Owens and Zami Zayn vs. Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci

Kaiser and Sami start things off and Kaiser with a punch on the break.  Kaiser with a side head lock.  Sami with an arm drag into an arm bar.  Vinci makes the tag and Sami sends Kaiser over the top rope but Vinci hits Sami from behind and connects with a European uppercut.  Sami leap frogs over VInci and connects with a clothesline.  Sami sends Vinci into the turnbuckles.  Sami goes to the turnbuckles and Kaiser pushes Sami off and Vinci with a punch for a near fall.  Kaiser tags in and he kicks Sami.  Kaiser and Owens have some words in front of the referee and Vinci chokes and punches Sami.  VInci tags ina dn they hit a double drop kick combination on Sami.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Sami with punches but Kaiser runs Sami into his corner.  Sami sends Kaiser to the floor and Vinci comes in.  Vinci is kicked to the floor.  Kevin tags in and he kicks Kaiser.  Kevin with a back body drop and a reverse atomic drop and clothesline.  Kevin kicks Vinci to the floor and hits a package neck breaker for a near fall.  Kevin goes up top and hits a swanton for a near fall when Vinci breaks up the cover.  Kevin kicks Vinci to the floor.  Kaiser punches Kevin and Vinci and Kaiser go high low and Vinci gets a near fall.  Vinci with a front face lock and Kaiser tags in and punhes Owens.  Kaiser with an Irish whip and uppercut followed by a kick.  Owens with a clothesline and both men are down.

We are back and Sami with punches but Kaiser runs Sami into his corner.  Sami sends Kaiser to the floor and Vinci comes in.  Vinci is kicked to the floor.  Kevin tags in and he kicks Kaiser.  Kevin with a back body drop and a reverse atomic drop and clothesline.  Kevin kicks Vinci to the floor and hits a package neck breaker for a near fall.  Kevin goes up top and hits a swanton for a near fall when Vinci breaks up the cover.  Kevin kicks Vinci to the floor.  Kaiser punches Kevin and Vinci and Kaiser go high low and Vinci gets a near fall.  Vinci with a front face lock and Kaiser tags in and punhes Owens.  Kaiser with an Irish whip and uppercut followed by a kick.  Owens with a clothesline and both men are down.

Vinci tags in and knocks Sami off the apron.  Vinci punches Owens and they set for the Imperium bomb but Kevin stops Vinci and hits a stunner on Kaiser.  Vinci with a rollup for a near fall.  Owens with a super kick.  Owens is sent to the apron after making a tag but Sami with a Helluva Kick for the three count.

Winners:  Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn

Backstage:

Chelsea and Sonya are in the back getting people to sign a Petition.    They have Xia li sign the Petition.  They go over to Indi, Johnny, and Candice to sign the Petition. Sonya says they are demanding a rematch for the tag titles. Sonya tells Inga to sign it.  Indi shows it to Dexter and he gives the Petition a thumbs down so they refuse. Chelsea calls Dexter rude and she tells Dexter to smile.

We go to commercial.

Nikki Cross vs. Zoey Stark

Zoey with a slap and Nikki with a flurry of forearms and punches.  Zoey with a knee and she sends Nikki into the turnbuckles face first.  Zoey with kicks to Nikki and the referee pulls her away.  Nikki sends Zoey to the apron.  Zoey sends Nikki into the turnbuckles and hits a springboard twisting senton.  Zoey with a clothesline for a near fall.  Zoey with a reverse chin lock.  Nikki with a jaw breaker and Zoey goes into the turnbuckles when Nikki moves.  Nikki with forearms.  Nikki with another forearm.  Zoey with an Irish whip and Nikki floats over.  Nikki with a drop kick to the knee.  Nikki with another drop kick.  Nikki with a splash into the corner and she goes to the turnbuckles for a tornado DDT but Zoey pushes her away.  Zoey with a super kick and Z360 for the three count.

Winner:  Zoey Stark

Backstage:

Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio are with Byron Saxton in the back. Byron asks Rhea whether she is feeling any pressure.  Rhea says she loves the pressure. Xavier Woods and Akira Tozawa laugh in the hallway and Dom tells them to show Rhea respect. Dom tells Woods it won’t be so funny when he takes care of him. Woods challenges Dom to a match and Rhea says Dom Dom accepts. Woods turns around and wonders where Tozawa went.

– Trish Stratus is in the back handing out missing posters of Becky Lynch.
