Mark Shapiro Confirms WWE’s Partnership With Comcast Remains Strong – TKO President Mark Shapiro has reaffirmed WWE’s long-standing relationship with Comcast and NBC Universal, making it clear that the partnership will continue for as long as both parties remain committed.
In an interview with The Varsity, Shapiro discussed WWE’s current strategy of distributing its media rights across multiple outlets. He highlighted that despite the company’s expansion into other platforms, Comcast’s connection to WWE remains unshakable.
“Our main stuff sits in a good place. ESPN has the PLEs. Comcast, who has all the history with WWE, we’re not going to leave them as long as they want to be with us, has SmackDown on USA. Now, Netflix has picked up the world with Raw and the premium live events,” Shapiro said.
The TKO President went on to describe WWE’s philosophy of balancing financial gain with wider audience exposure. By diversifying its media rights deals, WWE has strategically placed its programming to reach different audiences while maximizing revenue.
“We’ve narrowed it down,” Shapiro continued. “We look for different opportunities to find new audiences, and that’s what drove our NXT development league with CW. It’s a combination. You’re looking to maximize dollars, but you also want to maximize reach, audience, and what’s the right fit for your brand.”
With ESPN airing premium live events, Netflix hosting RAW and PLEs, and SmackDown secured on USA Network, WWE has managed to maintain its decades-long foundation with Comcast while also exploring new markets and distribution platforms.
