Jim Ross Reveals When His AEW Contract Expires

Jim Ross has opened up about his future with AEW, revealing that his current contract is due to expire later this summer and admitting he is unsure whether Tony Khan plans to offer him a new deal.

The legendary announcer discussed the situation during a recent episode of Grilling JR after being asked if he wished he had a larger role behind the scenes in AEW beyond commentary duties. Ross has been with the company since its launch in 2019 and remains one of the most recognizable voices in professional wrestling history.

Despite speculation online about his position within the company, Ross said he is happy with where things stand right now.

“I’m pretty content, Conrad. To be honest with you, would I accept more responsibility and do more work? Of course, if asked to perform in that world, I’m happy to do it. You know, Tony Khan’s been really good to me. I see it written about online time to time, you know, Ross must have a hell of a deal, and all that, and I do have a hell of a deal. I’ve got, I’m in a good spot.”

Ross then confirmed his AEW agreement is nearing its end and explained that he recently spoke with agent Barry Bloom about what comes next.

“But I don’t have a lot more time left on my contract. I talked to Barry Bloom, my agent, he was in New York, and we chatted about my status, and I’m just gonna let it play out. I don’t know when Tony Khan wants to keep me, well, if he doesn’t, then he won’t. I sounded off flippant, I guess, but God damn, Conrad, I’ve been doing this 50 years, long time, and I enjoyed virtually every minute of it, so I’ll keep everybody posted whenever my deal is up, I think sometime in August, I believe that’s true, that’s how focused I am on my contract. I just passed the worrying about it stage.”

While Ross acknowledged uncertainty surrounding his future, he had plenty of positive things to say about AEW’s current structure and the people working behind the scenes.

“I hope I stay with them, and I enjoy the hell out of Tony Khan, and he’s got a good staff. He’s got some good people around him now too. On the wrestling side, I think he’s got his strongest. I believe that presently AEW has their strongest support staff assembled as we’ve ever had, maybe the very beginning when there’s a lot of smart people involved, but I think it’ll be a long time.”

Ross also shared that he is stepping away from book writing for now as he evaluates what the next chapter of his career could look like once the summer ends.

“I’m gonna take a little break in it. After this summer, I’m not sure what my future holds, you know, with AEW. I think it’ll be a long time for writing another book.”

AEW Programming Will Soon No Longer Be Available On NJPW World In Japan

For AEW fans in Japan, New Japan Pro Wrestling’s streaming service, NJPW World, has been the destination for all of All Elite Wrestling’s weekly programming. However, that is all set to change over the summer as NJPW issued an official statement confirming that the service will no longer be carrying AEW programming.

The statement said that the current contract between the two parties ends on August 31, 2026, where after that date, AEW content will no longer be available on the platform. These archives include episodes of “AEW Dynamite,” “AEW Collision,” “AEW Rampage,” and TV specials like Battle of the Belts. Furthermore, new episodes of both “Dynamite” and “Collision” will stop being added to the platform at the end of June, with the June 24 episode of “Dynamite” and the June 27 episode of “Collision” being the final new episodes uploaded to the service. However, previous editions of the Forbidden Door pay-per-views will still be available until further notice. Those in Japan who still wish to watch AEW content were urged to sign up to MyAEW, AEW’s international streaming service.

This news comes in the wake of NJPW announcing that its parent company, Bushiroad, has sold its shares in NJPW to TV Asahi and CyberAgent, the parent company of other Japanese wrestling companies like Pro Wrestling NOAH, Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling, and DDT Pro Wrestling. There was some speculation on the future of AEW’s relationship with NJPW under the company’s new owners due to NOAH having a working relationship with WWE. However, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported that the sale was to do with Bushiroad’s portfolio priorities. AEW and NJPW will still be working together this month as the annual Forbidden Door pay-per-view takes place on June 28, though it’s currently unclear as to whether this year’s event will be the final instalment.

WWE Clash In Italy: Draws & Duds

Cody Rhodes will be making his third defense of this WWE Championship reign against GUNTHER at Clash in Italy, having dethroned Drew McIntyre for the title in March and seen off Randy Orton at WrestleMania in April.

GUNTHER will be challenging for the lineal World Championship for the first time, having previously held the World Heavyweight Championship twice after setting a 666-day record with the Intercontinental Championship. He retired John Cena via submission in December, then AJ Styles in January, and then answered Paul Heyman’s call to action against Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 42, defeating him and supposedly cashing in his favor to secure a move to “WWE SmackDown” and a WWE Championship contract at Clash in Italy. Seem straightforward enough?

Well, GUNTHER had attacked Rhodes before the contract had been presented to him, thus confirming to the fans that this was the path forward – GUNTHER vs. Rhodes for the title. He was the next week presented with the contract, which he refused to sign because Rhodes had come out during the signing to say address the attack from the week before.

Thus ensued weeks of Rhodes and General Manager Nick Aldis chasing a signature from GUNTHER to cement the match, to which Royce Keys sought to make use of and threw his own hat in the ring.  GUNTHER then beat Keys in a Number One Contendership match and still refused to sign the contract, despite the match already being announced, advertised, and definitely going to happen.

Gradually as the shenanigans have gone on, any interest in this match for the marquee title bout it is has diminished. GUNTHER is legitimately one of the best wrestlers in the world, a natural villain, and Rhodes is also no slouch in the ring and just so happens to be objectively the biggest babyface in wrestling today. Rhodes is one of the rare few to hold a clean win over the “Ring General” in WWE, with just Ilja Dragunov, Bron Breakker, and Sami Zayn before him.

That would have been enough to justify much of the rhyme and reason behind this match being made. GUNTHER would have been a credible enough challenger even before he had retired Cena, Styles, and beat Rollins at ‘Mania. But the route has been so long-winded that this match feels like mercy rather than spectacle. GUNTHER is finally facing Rhodes after a frankly nonsensical build for no reason other than to kill time.

That’s the sort of stuff that Nick Khan is drawing on in Senate Hearings to justify why boxing is broken, and here it is being scripted into a show that’s choosing to be difficult to follow. That’s a dud, unfortunate as it may be.

AEW’s Will Ospreay Reflects On 10-Year Anniversary Of Ricochet Match That Went Viral

On May 27, 2016, current AEW stars Will Ospreay and Ricochet met in the block stage of that year’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Ospreay was on his first tour with NJPW while Ricochet had already won the competition a few years earlier, and even though many fans thought the match between the two men would be entertaining, no one was prepared for what would actually happen.

The match went viral on social media, dividing fans down the middle between those who thought it was ahead of its time, and those who thought it went against everything that wrestling stood for. However, in the 10 years since it took place, the match has been considered as one of the most influential of the modern era despite its critics that remain to this day, and to celebrate a full decade since it took place, Ospreay took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to commemorate the occasion.

“10 years ago today was the match that changed everything,” Ospreay wrote. “It’s crazy how quick time has flown by. Seeing where me and Ricochet are now in our careers makes me smile. Grateful to have been part of the ‘flippy s***’ generation.”

The two men had actually wrestled three times before their now infamous bout in NJPW, and have since crossed paths multiple times all over the world in singles competition, including a rematch in the following year’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament that was just as divisive. Their most recent one-on-one encounter took place on the December 21, 2024 episode of “AEW Collision” where Ricochet defeated Ospreay in that year’s Continental Classic tournament. However, the last time Ospreay and Ricochet met in the ring was on the April 9, 2025 episode of “AEW Dynamite” where Ospreay teamed up with Mark Briscoe and JetSpeed to defeat Ricochet, CRU, and The Beast Mortos to win $400,000.

Former WWE Star Curtis Axel Charged Following Alleged DWI Incident

Former WWE Star Curtis Axel Charged Following Alleged DWI Incident

Former WWE star Joe Hennig, best known to wrestling fans as Curtis Axel, has been charged following an alleged drunk driving incident at a Minnesota McDonald’s drive thru earlier this month.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Anoka County, Hennig was involved in the incident on May 17, 2026, at around 8:47 p.m. Officers from the St. Francis Police Department responded to reports of a property damage crash at a McDonald’s located on Saint Francis Boulevard Northwest.

Police allegedly discovered Hennig slowly driving a truck through the parking lot when they arrived on the scene. The complaint claims officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle, while Hennig reportedly showed signs of intoxication including bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and watery eyes.

Authorities state that Hennig refused repeated commands to exit the vehicle. Officers then allegedly opened the truck door, switched off the engine, and removed the keys before physically pulling him from the vehicle and placing him in handcuffs after continued resistance.

While inside a squad car, police reportedly read Hennig the Minnesota Breath Test Advisory. According to the complaint, he refused chemical testing and allegedly directed profanity and a slur toward officers.

A McDonald’s employee also claimed Hennig had been mumbling while in the drive thru before allegedly swearing at staff members and backing his vehicle into another car. The complaint further states that Hennig exited the truck and yelled at the female driver involved in the collision.

During an inventory search before the truck was towed, officers reportedly found an open 750 mL bottle of Phillips vodka on the front passenger side floorboard.

Hennig now faces several charges, including gross misdemeanor refusal to submit to a chemical test, misdemeanor DWI, obstructing legal process, violation of the open bottle law, and disorderly conduct.

The case was officially filed on May 18, 2026. Court records show Judge Karen B. Schommer set bail conditions allowing either a $12,000 bond with no conditions or release with conditions at no cost.

Hennig wrestled in WWE from 2007 through 2020 under the names Curtis Axel and Michael McGillicutty. He is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Curt Hennig and grandson of wrestling legend Larry Hennig.
