Iyo Sky Announces Marriage To WWE NXT Star Naraku

WWE star Iyo Sky has confirmed that she is married to WWE NXT talent Naraku, the former NJPW standout known to fans as EVIL. The announcement was made on May 17 through social media, where Sky shared wedding photos alongside a heartfelt statement addressing fans. Their relationship was also revealed publicly during an episode of the Japanese documentary program Jounetsu Tairiku that aired the same day.

The news arrives just days after Naraku made his official WWE NXT in ring debut, picking up a win over Lince Dorado on the May 12 edition of NXT.

“We would like to announce that NARAKU, formerly EVIL of WWE, and IYO SKY, formerly Io Shirai of WWE, are now husband and wife,” the statement read. “Having started our professional wrestling careers in Japan, we have each seen different landscapes and different skies, but from this early summer, we will be able to compete on the same stage across the ocean in WWE, becoming colleagues and comrades. We feel a deep sense of connection and joy in this.”

The message continued by reflecting on their future together both personally and professionally.

“From now on, as husband and wife, we will support each other in our daily lives, and as WWE superstars, we will share both the loneliness of darkness and the glory, pushing each other to improve and striving to shine even brighter. We will never forget our gratitude to all the fans and those involved who have supported and guided us so far, and we intend to push forward together towards even greater heights.”

Reports of the pair’s engagement first surfaced back in 2015 through Tokyo Sports, though the two largely kept their relationship private throughout their rise in Japanese wrestling and eventual move to WWE.

Naraku spent 15 years competing in New Japan Pro Wrestling under the EVIL name before officially joining WWE earlier this year. Since arriving in NXT, he has already made it clear that his goal is to capture the NXT Championship currently held by Tony D’Angelo. During his NJPW career, he captured the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, IWGP Intercontinental Championship, and multiple NEVER Openweight titles.

Sky joined WWE in 2018 and quickly became one of the standout stars of the NXT women’s division before moving to the main roster. She later won the WWE Women’s World Championship after cashing in her Money in the Bank contract at SummerSlam 2023 and remains a featured performer on WWE Raw.

Should Naraku eventually capture the NXT Championship, the pair would join Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch as married WWE couples who have both held NXT’s top championships.

Former WWE Stars Karrion Kross And Scarlett Talk Possibility Of Return Or AEW Debut

After WWE, All Elite Wrestling is largely recognized as the second biggest professional wrestling promotion in the world. In the eyes of Kross and Scarlett, though, status is irrelevant if creative opportunities are lacking.

“Wherever we go, whether it’s an independent or it’s a televised company or streaming, whatever have it, we want to be out there performing at our best,” Kross said when asked about the possibility of debuting in AEW. “We don’t want to show up, collect a paycheck, and just leave. We’re making an excellent living. We’re in a very unique situation, man. It doesn’t always work out this way for everybody independently, but we’re in an excellent situation where we’re able to work all over the world. To put it as plainly as possible, it’s not about clearing a particular amount of money. It’s about the purpose of the performance.”

Scarlett echoed Kross’ sentiments, noting that proper long-term storyline plans would put AEW in serious contention for their next landing spot. What exact ideas that plan might have to contain was not specified.

“We want to do meaningful performances with purpose and have fun,” Kross added. “Since we’ve been independent, we’ve been able to do that. It’s feeding our soul.”

Regardless of audience size, whether it be 40,000 or 2,000, Kross and Scarlett made it clear that they intend to perform at their highest level. Should they join AEW, which regularly attracts thousands of fans to its event, they would wrestle amongst a roster full of other ex-WWE stars such as Jon Moxley, Toni Storm, Chris Jericho, and Adam “Edge” Copeland.

Karrion Kross Reflects On Failed First WWE Main Roster Call-Up

Kross’ wife and valet, former WWE star Scarlett, added that it seemed like Vince McMahon wanted Karrion Kross’ character to take after Church of Satan founder Anton LaVey.

“He had all these crazy [ideas],” Kross recalled. “And I’m just like, the stuff he’s giving me is not really telling me anything about the character.”

Kross said that McMahon only focused on his in-ring presentation, calling Kross the “gladiator of misery.”

“‘You’re going to conduct misery on these people! You’re going to torture them!’ I was like, okay?” Kross said.

Scarlett then claimed that McMahon graphically described quartering by horse as what he wanted Kross to do to his opponents.

“I said ‘What the f*** is that?'” Kross exclaimed. “The writing team were like: ‘We need to get you out of this s***, we don’t know what this is, we’re familiar with what you did on ‘NXT,’ we need to get you back to that.'”

Following this, Kross claimed the writing team tried to get the producers to gradually get him to ditch the mask, but McMahon suddenly pivoted and pretended as if he had never heard of the decision to put a mask on Kross before.

“They ask him again after the meeting: ‘Hey can we lose the mask?’ and he goes: ‘I’ve never seen it before! Yeah! We don’t want him him wearing the mask! They can’t see his god***n face; he’s a very emotive guy, he’s got good facial expressions, why would he wear a f***ing mask?'” Kross recalled.

Following this interaction, Kross claims it wasn’t long after that he and Bordeaux were first released from WWE. He also teased that he would one day reveal more of the story.

WWE Star Cody Rhodes Explains Why He Received Cease & Desist Letter From Nintendo

Japanese video game company Nintendo is known for cracking down on piracy and unauthorized usage of their products, but that usually happens to video game streamers and not pro wrestlers. Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has never shied away from his deep love for video games, but according to the star himself, he got into hot water with Nintendo while showing his love for the Legend of Zelda series.

“I live that s**t, dog,” Rhodes said during an episode of “What Do You Wanna Talk About? With Cody Rhodes.” Rhodes explained that he previously featured the Triforce insignia from the series on his gear. “I thought the principles of the Triforce – which are power, courage, and wisdom – and, for those who don’t know, Zelda’s the wise one, obviously Link is the one who’s got the courage, and then power is Ganon; they make up the three parts of the Triforce.”

Rhodes added that the concept rings true to him because those three aspects are something he looks for in his own pro wrestling career. “I thought it was just applicable. I also got a cease-and-desist from Nintendo!” he revealed. “It was very kind! They’re weren’t coming after anybody.”

He then compared one of the most popular entries in The Legend of Zelda series, “The Twilight Princess,” to pro wrestling. “Fans like what they like, and when they get vocal enough, the whole world’s going to change,” he explained, adding that the criticism to the previous title, “The Wind Waker” ushered in “Twilight Princess,” which is something he says he’s experienced with his own pro wrestling career.
