WWE In Talks With Baron Corbin For Possible Return Amid SmackDown Speculation

WWE In Talks With Baron Corbin For Possible Return Amid SmackDown Speculation

WWE is reportedly in discussions with former star Baron Corbin about a potential return to the company, according to Dave Meltzer. The update was shared on Wrestling Observer Radio, where Meltzer stated that talks between the two sides have been ongoing and significant, though not yet confirmed as finalized.

Corbin, now performing under the name Bishop Dyer, exited WWE in November 2024 after his contract expired, ending a 12-year run. Since then, he has remained active across multiple promotions, including MLW, NWA, GCW, and Maple Leaf Pro, along with a one-off appearance tied to an AEW dark match in early 2026.

Meltzer indicated that a return is a real possibility based on current discussions.

“Probably back in WWE. I’ve not heard it’s a done deal, but I know it’s been talked about, yes.”

There is also speculation that Corbin could be connected to the ongoing mystery surrounding Danhausen on SmackDown. Recent segments have featured teases of something “bigger,” leading to theories about a surprise reveal.

“On the SmackDown show, when Danhausen was talking about something bigger, my gut was that that’s who it is. That’s just my speculation, but I just know that he’s been talked with about being brought in.”

Meltzer made it clear that while discussions are advanced, nothing has been officially confirmed.

“It might even be done, but I haven’t had it officially confirmed to me it’s done. But I have 100% confirmed that it’s been heavily talked about.”

Corbin has previously addressed the possibility of returning to WWE during interviews, making it clear the door remains open while he explores other opportunities. He has not signed a long-term deal elsewhere, keeping his options flexible.

During his time away from WWE, Corbin captured the MLW World Tag Team Championships alongside Donovan Dijak as part of The Skyscrapers. He also expanded his focus into combat sports, training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and boxing, and achieving success in competition shortly after his WWE departure.

In WWE, Corbin built a resume that includes winning the 2017 Men’s Money in the Bank, the 2019 King of the Ring, the 2016 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, as well as holding the United States Championship and NXT Tag Team Championship with Bron Breakker.

If a deal is finalized, Corbin’s return would mark another notable comeback from a former WWE name over the past year and a half, potentially with a refreshed character and direction tied to current SmackDown storylines. WWE has not issued an official statement regarding the report.

JBL Reveals Vince McMahon Fed Him Iconic “That’s Not Sting” Line In Real Time

JBL Reveals Vince McMahon Fed Him Iconic “That’s Not Sting” Line In Real Time

JBL has confirmed that one of the most memorable lines from his WWE commentary career did not originate from him, but instead came from Vince McMahon through his headset during a live broadcast.

Speaking on Something to Wrestle, JBL looked back on calling matches involving Sting during his WWE run and shared the story behind the now-famous quote.

“I never got to work with Sting much. Certainly, I never got to work with him in the ring, but I got to do commentary for him when he made his debut. When Vince fed me the line that people love to bring up, when he fed it to me, I thought that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever said, and I realized now how good it was. You know, it sometimes he feeds you stuff, and you don’t realize at the time it’s pretty good when he’s had a picture of head Sting back there, his thing wasn’t moving, and they said, that’s Sting, that’s a picture of Sting. I never said it. Vince fed me that line verbatim. And I said it, and I thought, Man, I don’t think I like that line at all. Sounds dumb. People have brought that up over the years.”

JBL admitted that his opinion on the line has changed over time, and he now sees why it connected with fans.

“100% kudos to the chairman out there, because at the time, I didn’t think it was that great, and I realized now it’s a pretty freaking good line, but I got to call a lot of his matches, but never got to be in the ring with him.”

He went on to explain how working with McMahon during live commentary required quick adjustments, especially when being fed lines mid-broadcast.

“Oh, when he told it to me, Conrad, it was kind of like, ah, geez, God. You know when somebody says something to you, even if it makes sense, if you’re going down a different line of thought, you think it doesn’t make sense at all because you’re going down this line here and it doesn’t fit your line of thought that you’re going on. It’s such a non sequitur. And so Vince fed me that line verbatim. ‘That’s not Sting. That’s a picture of Sting.’”

JBL also addressed long-standing stories about McMahon’s behavior toward commentators, pushing back on claims that he would yell instructions aggressively through the headset.

“Vince was so good that I would be one or two words right behind him, you know, I had a different relationship. You know, all these guys talk about Vince yelling at [them] and all that stuff we’ve talked about. That never happened to me. He was always great to work with. But I was one word behind him, and that was 100% Vince’s line that he said, ‘That’s not Sting. That’s a picture of Sting.’”

The moment dates back to Sting’s WWE debut period, which began at Survivor Series 2014. At the time, JBL was part of the main announce team alongside Michael Cole, with Jerry Lawler also rotating into the booth.

Jacob Fatu Speaks On The Rock, Recalls His Surprise Appearance At WWE Bad Blood 2024

One of The Rock’s biggest rivals during the peak of his WWE career was undoubtedly Stone Cold Steve Austin. According to Jacob Fatu, he once met both veterans backstage decades before he would someday be signed by WWE.

“As a kid, [I saw Austin] leaning over the table, just talking smack,” he recalled. “I remember The Rock – Nation of Domination – I’m backstage, he just like fresh out the shower … I asked him for like a couple of autographs!”

Fatu claimed he asked The Rock for three different autographs, and while he ended up getting annoyed, “The People’s Champ” just gave him a “People’s Eyebrow” and continued to sign away.

“Man, shout out to The Rock! He actually signed all of them, and man, he was the first person that gave me a hundred dollars,” Fatu further stated, clarifying that he was just a kid a the time, and since The Rock was closing in on his Corporation Rock years, he thought the veteran had a lot of money to give away.

“I think I asked him for a dollar,” he said. “‘Rock? You got a dollar?’ Man, he pulled out a hundred, gave me and my brother a hundred dollars!”

When asked if he’s seen The Rock lately, Fatu shared a brief recent memory with him.

“I seen him at Netflix, you know what I mean? Just gave him a hug, man,” he recalled. “One thing I learned about The Rock, he knows everybody’s name, it’s just love, you know, he’s not scared to speak about our culture.”

Fatu also added that he saw The Rock backstage at WrestleMania XL, and he was just happy to see “The Final Boss” in person.

Sandman Reflects On Hard Partying Days In ECW, Overdosing

ECW was known for its extreme characters, but like in the case of Sandman, many other stars on the roster struggled with their own demons in their private lives. Raven’s portrayal of a Grunge Rock-inspired cult leader got him over with fans, but like Sandman, he struggled with addictions, and naturally, the two ended up partying together.

“I meet Raven at a hotel in Cleveland, and I go in there, and he opens up a pill bottle, and he pours all these brightly colored pills out of his hand,” Sandman recalled, clarifying that he was offered ecstasy for the first time by Raven. “Raven and drugs – I guess there’s a common denominator there – so me and new drugs.” Sandman then claimed that he took the wrong amount of drugs from Raven and was so high he had to be looked after by an acquaintance of Raven’s who gave him acid the next day.

“The next day, apparently, freaking I hit New Jack with some acid, I think Tracy Smothers might have got a little bit, and somebody else,” he further recalled, warning people not to mess with acid or mushrooms as it isn’t for just anyone. Sandman then recalled stepping into his match, claiming that he can’t remember anything but the end of the match.

“Paulie had no problem with it,” he noted.

Sandman then added that Paul Heyman was so okay with his drug use, recalling another day when he was high on ecstasy.

“[Heyman] goes: ‘Go find New Jack and get some f**king cocaine in yourself right now.’ That was exactly what Paul Heyman said,” he claimed.

Sandman retired earlier this year during WrestleMania Weekend.

WWE’s IYO SKY Announces Marriage To Former IWGP Heavyweight Champion

There’s a new couple in WWE, and their names are IYO SKY and Naraku.

SKY broke the news on X with a wedding photo and a joint statement celebrating their recent marriage. “The Genius of the Sky” simultaneously embraced their new “Mr. and Mrs.” labels with a pair of sparkle emojis.

“Having started our paths in professional wrestling in Japan, we have each looked at different scenery and different ‘skies,'” the statement read. “However, starting from this early summer, we feel a deep connection and joy in becoming colleagues and comrades taking on the challenge of the same stage across the ocean in WWE. From now on, we will support each other in our daily lives as a married couple. As WWE ‘Superstars,’ we will share both the lonely ‘darkness”‘ and the glory, pushing each other to improve and striving to shine even brighter.

“Without ever forgetting our feelings of gratitude toward the fans who have supported and guided us up to this point, as well as everyone involved in the industry, we intend to push forward together to aim for even greater heights. We are still inexperienced, but we humbly ask for your continued guidance and encouragement going forward.”

SKY officially joined WWE in 2018, the same year in which she appeared in the second Mae Young Classic, then “WWE NXT.” Naraku’s WWE debut, on the other hand, took place just a few weeks ago as he confronted current NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo on “NXT.”

Prior to signing with WWE, Naraku primarily performed in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where he was known as EVIL. Under the NJPW banner, he enjoyed one reign as IWGP Heavyweight Champion. SKY wrestled for NJPW’s sister company STARDOM, in which she was recognized as the “ace.” Two World of STARDOM Championship reigns, as well as many others in singles and tag team competition, backed her up.
