Jack Perry Retains National Title Over AEW/CMLL Star On Collision

In his third test as All Elite Wrestling’s National Champion, Jack Perry took on one of wrestling’s highest flyers on “AEW Collision.” Still, he emerged on top.

Following a chaotic 10-men tag bout, Perry continued the “Collision” action when he defended his National Championship against AEW-CMLL star Mascara Dorada. Despite clutching his ribs, Dorada seemed on the verge of victory at one point when he nailed a 450 Splash. Ever resilient, Perry kicked out and resumed their battle, this time by fighting on the apron.

Dorada again appeared poised to dethrone Perry when he faceplanted him on the mat, then covered him. Yet again, though, Perry kicked out just before the referee’s count of three. From there, the former “Jungle Boy” blocked a Shooting Star Press with his knees and rolled Dorada up for a near fall of his own. When the two then met atop the turnbuckle, Dorada pushed Perry to the ground, to which Perry sprung back up to deliver an avalanche hurricanrana for the win and title retention.

The May 2 edition of “Collision” marked the first ever faceoff between Perry and Dorada, the latter of whom has spent the majority of his career working in CMLL. In January 2026, AEW CEO Tony Khan confirmed that Dorada was officially All Elite as well, meaning he’d inked a dual contract with CMLL and AEW.

Perry captured the AEW National Championship by outlasting 20 other men in a Blackjack Battle Royal at Revolution. This included the inaugural champion Ricochet, who stood opposite Perry as one of the final two competitors.

WWE’s Matt Cardona Reflects On Switch Back To Zack Ryder Name For John Cena Tournament

Matt Cardona has revealed the confusion surrounding his ring name for his return in the John Cena tournament, as well as his decision to use his real name after signing with WWE.

Cardona returned to WWE in November for The Last Time Is Now tournament, where he wrestled under his former WWE name, Zack Ryder, for the first time since his release from WWE. He recently spoke to “The Wrestling Classic” about the uncertainty surrounding his ring name ahead of the match.

“So, for that John Cena tournament, I actually do wrestle as Zack Ryder. But I didn’t know. I’m thinking I’m coming as Matt Cardona, right? And then like a couple of days before, I get a text like, ‘Hey, we sent some t-shirts over for you to approve.’ I’m like, ‘How do you have my Matt Cardona logos?’ They’re like, ‘Oh, no, you’re Zack Ryder.’ I was like, ‘Oh, no,'” he said. “[I was thinking] ‘I need new Zack Ryder gear’ because I had sold off all my stuff except for like the meaningful stuff. I’m not going to wrestle on SmackDown in my WrestleMania 32 gear. So I had to overnight get Zack Ryder gear made.”

He revealed that he wasn’t sure if he would come out as Zack Ryder or Matt Cardona for the John Cena tournament, with WWE eventually deciding to bring him back as Ryder.

“And then even at the building that day, I had like my Zack stuff, my Matt stuff, and I was hidden all day in a room. And I’m like, ‘Listen, I’m fine with being whatever you want me to be. Just get somebody to tell me which one.’ So it was back and forth all day. And I came out as Zack Ryder, sold a bunch of t-shirts, it was awesome,” he said.

After WWE asked him to use the Zack Ryder name, he assumed that the name would be used upon his return to the company. However, when WWE changed its mind and asked him to use the Matt Cardona name instead, he once again had to create new gear ahead of his long-awaited return.

Booker T Was ‘Happy As Hell’ When Radicalz Left WCW For WWE

In January 2000, during an episode of “WWE Raw,” The Radicalz – Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko, and Perry Saturn – made their collective debut in WWE as apparent audience members, before jumping the guard rail to attack the New Age Outlaws.

The Radicalz made names for themselves in WCW, and when all four men left the promotion at the same time, it left a massive vacuum of talent, and Booker T was ecstatic about it. “When Eddie Guerrero, Benoit, and all those guys left – Saturn, you know, Malenko – I was happy as hell!” he exclaimed during an episode of his “Hall of Fame” podcast. “I was like: ‘Man! Four spots just opened! And I’m taking one of ’em! I was happy as hell!”

In light of the recent WWE releases, Booker advised all the talent to take a similar approach he did in WCW to work harder and earn their places in the promotion now that there are many open spots. “It’s such a big opportunity for someone to make themselves a star,” he pointed out. “Guys that are sitting in the back, you know, twiddling their thumbs, wondering how it’s going to happen? They’re not going to make it.” Booker further advised the talent to find a mentor and learn as much as they can to get opportunities and advance quickly.

Later the same year The Radicalz left WCW, Booker would go on to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship and be elevated to main event status. He’d then go on to win the title two more times, becoming the final man to reign with the WCW World Heavyweight Championship before the title was repurposed in WWE.

Bully Ray & Tommy Dreamer Discuss AI-Generated Video Presented On WWE NXT

After Zaria emerged as the last woman standing at “WWE NXT” Revenge, WWE tried to create a sense of closure for her, and her former friend Sol Ruca, by showing a cinematic vignette. Instead, the company created an online uproar.

In the video, featured on the April 28 edition of “NXT,” Ruca’s face broke off into pieces, then turned to ash. Meanwhile, as she walked through towering, burning waves, Zaria vowed to scorch everyone and everything in her path forward. Many fans across the social media were quick to realize and chastise the scene afterward, particularly for its usage of AI (artificial intelligence). WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray and TNA’s Tommy Dreamer, on the other hand, weren’t totally against it.

“Zaria’s entrance is part of that AI. It gave her a futuristic look,” Dreamer said on “Busted Open Radio.” “She looks like a futuristic warrior, like a Mad Max type of vibe … I loved like when the pieces of the face broke off. That’s like futuristic crap.”

While he seemed to personally enjoy the AI-generated video of Ruca and Zaria, Dreamer also recognized that, in general, artificial intelligence has a swarm of criticisms around it, with one of them being that it encourages laziness. Additionally, AI puts the work of real artists at risk.

“AI is taking away thought. AI is taking away artists, music, all that stuff,” Dreamer said. “So that’s why it has such a negative connotation. Then even, I’ve had wrestlers come up to me and be like, ‘Here’s a promo.’ And I’d be like, ‘Wow, that’s pretty good. Did you write it?’ And they’re like, ‘Well, I used AI,’ and I’m like ‘Yuck.’ AI’s talking the people in. I like it, but you have to make this your own. So I think that’s why it has a negative connotation … Also, AI would take away a lot of jobs from millions of people in an industry of all industries.”

Backstage Report On Paige’s WWE Return At WrestleMania 42

It was a heroic resurgence the moment Paige stepped through the curtain and returned to her house in the WWE at WrestleMania 42 on April 18. With the fans in attendance providing a boisterous round or more of cheers at the Allegiant Stadium, the “Hell in Boots” Superstar carried that warmth with her, and became the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion, alongside Brie Bella. While many saw Paige post videos of herself that showcased intensive in-ring training sessions as far back as January, many are wondering how long the idea of her comeback to the WWE was in the works for.

According to “Fightful Select Answers Q&A,” they expect the decision for her return was discussed closer to curtain call, perhaps three weeks prior to “The Grandest Stage of Them All.” Of course when someone makes a long awaited return, those around the star in question and the star themselves will keep that information close to the vest, which might’ve been what happened to the Bella Twins, who were told by Paige herself that there weren’t any active talks between herself and the WWE at the time.

As Paige described, there were a few mandatory procedures she had to undergo first before her grand return, which included a drug test and clearance from past injuries, like her neck. With all systems go, the former two-time Divas and former inaugural NXT Women’s Champion is there to stay for several years. As noted by the current champion, this will be her last in-ring run. Her goal is to participate in the Women’s Royal Rumble and Women’s Elimination Chamber, as these specialized matches weren’t around at the time of her previous run.
