Dominik Mysterio Credits Netflix Partnership For WWE’s Pop Culture Prevalence

“WWE Raw” has called Netflix home for well over a year now, and AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio has been dominating the red brand for around five, after initially being drafted to “WWE SmackDown” in 2020. Since then, Mysterio has had plenty of riveting storylines, including his involvement with Judgment Day, his previous relationship with Rhea Ripley and current storyline romance with Liv Morgan, and his never-ending feud with his Hall of Fame father, Rey Mysterio. Mysterio recently sat down with Paper magazine and spoke about how good the major streaming platform has been for WWE, as the company’s crossing more into the realm of pop culture.

“It’s the reach we’ve been able to get through Netflix,” Mysterio told the outlet. “Nothing against USA Network, it was the home of ‘Monday Night Raw’ for a lot of years… the longest-running episodic televised show in history, but Netflix just brought the viewership from around the world and really just globalized it.”

Mysterio said it doesn’t hurt that some of the biggest actors in Hollywood right now started their careers as wrestlers, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, John Cena, and Dave Bautisita. He said wrestling is more appealing these days, because so much has changed in the business, including the quality of storylines.

“The storylines are getting better and I feel like people respect it more because they see that we don’t have an off season,” he explained. “People see how hard we work. We’re on the road 300 days out of the year and I feel like people really started to recognize that and started to see the hard work that we put in, and started giving us more respect for it.”

Adam Copeland Makes Major, Potentially Final Challenge For AEW World Tag Team Titles

Adam Copeland appeared during “AEW Dynamite” to make one last play at the World Tag Team Championship held by FTR.

Copeland said he heard that he and Christian Cage would not be getting another opportunity at the Tag titles after what FTR had said last week. And, while he is a bit biased, felt they should get another fair crack.

He continued to say he had been working his mind to figure out a deal that could appeal to them, and he settled on a challenge to prove they are truly the greatest tag team of all time by beating them in a New York Street Fight at Double or Nothing.

In case FTR were wondering what was in it for them, he said that if FTR wins, then Copeland and Cage retire as a tag team.

Copeland and Cage failed in their first attempt at the titles at Dynasty having beaten the champions prior to their becoming so at last year’s All Out in Toronto. The record stands at 1-1 heading into what will be a true Double or Nothing match, per the stipulation laid out by Copeland on Wednesday.

MJF Fakes Out Kevin Knight, Earns AEW TNT Title Match

The April 22 episode of “AEW Dynamite” kicked off in a major way when MJF wanted a rematch with Darby Allin for the AEW Men’s World Championship that he lost one week ago, but instead, he bagged himself a shot at Kevin Knight and the AEW TNT Championship instead.

Maxwell Jacob Friedman stormed to the ring and demanded Darby give him a rematch because he felt like he was screwed out of his beloved “Triple B.” However, it was Knight who answered the call instead, coming to the ring and reminding him that the match he had with MJF a few weeks ago didn’t exactly end as fairly as MJF made out. Knight even went as far as to say that if he hadn’t have been screwed himself, he would be a double champion.

In response, MJF took a look at Knight and came around to the idea of giving Knight a rematch against him, but only if Knight put his newly won TNT Championship on the line. Knight accepted and didn’t want to wait for the match later on in the night, he wanted the match right there and then, as did MJF, or so people thought. Just as Bryce Remsburg arrived to make the match official, MJF rolled out of the ring and told Knight that he would have to wait another week to get his hands on the former AEW Men’s World Champion.

Shortly after the segment ended, AEW President Tony Khan made the match official for the April 29 episode of “Dynamite. If Knight wins, it will mark his second successful defense of the title after defending it against Claudio Castagnoli on April 15, but if MJF wins, he will become only the third man in AEW history after Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley to win three separate singles titles in AEW, having already held the world title and the AEW International Championship in the past.

UFC Freedom 250 White House Set-Up Reportedly Begins Construction

The temporary structure being used for UFC Freedom 250 on the South Lawn of the White House in June has reportedly began construction in Pennsylvania.

According to the “Lititz Record Express,” the Warwick Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a special request on April 15 from TAIT Global LLC. to test a temporary open-air studio structure at its facility on Furnace Hills Pike. Following a local test and disassembly, the structure is due to be moved and reassembled at the White House for Freedom 250 event in June.

The local newspaper also showed a photo of the structure.

Per USA Today, a member of the Warwick Township Board of Directors in Lititz, Jeremy Strathmeyer, said that the the structure is 90 feet tall and 120 feet by 120 feet on the ground. But he believes the structure may already been moved.

“I think they dissembled it and put it in 18-wheelers and they’re getting ready to transport it down to Washington,” he said. “That was the plan.”

On the company handling construction, Strathmeyer said that “this isn’t their first rodeo” and noted that TAIT has worked with the Super Bowl before.

Freedom 250 will be exclusively reserved for those holding tickets privately distributed, with the event streaming via Paramount+ and UFC’s respective international media partners, and a watch party event due to be held at the Ellipse.

DHS has confirmed the event has been designated SEAR 1, putting its federal security requirements on a level with the Super Bowl, though which agencies will be handling the event will be announced at a later date.
