Former Women’s North American Champion Sol Ruca made her debut on “WWE Raw” after WWE WrestleMania 42, but her first match on the red brand, against new Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan, was thwarted by her former friend, Zaria.
Morgan went out to the ring alongside Judgment Day to gloat about becoming champion. She thanked her family and her WrestleMania opponent, Stephanie Vaquer, and went on to say it was her show, her division, and her title. That brought out Ruca. Ruca said she had been watching Morgan’s journey over the last decade, and Morgan has been an inspiration for her.
Ruca mentioned facing off against Morgan in the Royal Rumble and said she deserved the title. Morgan told her she had some nerve interrupting the celebration, and Ruca said she wasn’t looking for a fight, but she wasn’t backing down from one. Adam Pearce came out to make the match official.
Morgan was heavy on the offensive in the opening minutes, but Ruca held her own and rallied with an X-Factor. She hit Morgan with a moonsault off the ropes to the outside, then the pair went back-and-forth in the ring. Ruca hit a missile dropkick from the middle rope, but when she went to the top, she ate a Codebreaker as she landed.
Ruca hit a back handspring flip over the top rope to take out Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez on the outside. Zaria then appeared as the referee was checking on Morgan, and she laid out Ruca on the outside. The referee got to the count of nine, but when Ruca got back into the ring, she ran into the Oblivion for the champion to get the victory.
“All Ego” Ethan Page is officially the newest member of the “WWE Raw” roster, as announced by General Manager Adam Pearce backstage following WWE WrestleMania 42. Pearce was speaking with Je’Von Evans when they were interrupted by Page, who Pearce introduced as “‘Raw’s newest superstar.'”
Evans, who feuded with Page in “WWE NXT” after Page broke his jaw in storyline, was not thrilled when Page told him he is also after the Intercontinental Championship. Pearce made a match official between the pair, and Evans said nobody was going to take his place, especially Page.
Evans was able to get in plenty of offense in the match, despite hurting from the six-man Intercontinental Championship ladder match the night before. Page was in control of the match for awhile before Evans took him out with a hurricanrana and a flying leap to the outside. They battled outside of the ring, and Evans sent Page back into the ring post, then laid him out onto the announce desk.
Rusev appeared at ringside and tried to take out “The Young OG.” Evans turned his attention to Rusev and took him out with a cross body, but back in the ring, Page knocked Evans off the top rope to avoid the OG Cutter. He hit the Twisted Grin for the win.
After the match, Rusev got in the ring to beat down Evans. Penta came out to help, but Page laid him out alongside Rusev, who posed with the title to end the segment.
With her comedic flair and passion for fashion, Chelsea Green inspires many of the young fans watching WWE today. As a young fan herself, though, Green was particularly mesmerized by one of WWE’s most feminine characters of the Divas Era, Kelly Kelly.
During an interview with Esteban Ramirez, Green opened up about the unexpected influence that Kelly (real name Barbie Blank) had on her at the time. “I actually feel like I fell in love with [wrestling] late in life because I was in my 20s going to school for kinesiology. I was doing homework, saw a Brie Bella and Naomi match, and from that moment on, really I loved it. But then if we go back even further, my sister and I in my hometown of Victoria, BC, Canada, actually went to a live show one time for fun when we were in high school. Kelly Kelly was there and she had the most gorgeous purple outfit on. I just thought she was absolutely beautiful. I was amazed that someone so girly and so cute could do something that was so aggressive. So I think that that probably made a huge impact on me and I didn’t even know it.”
According to Green, Kelly’s influence on her was so strong that she routinely emulated the way the former Divas Champion walked to the ring. Moreover, Green’s early wrestling gears took on a similar aesthetic to Kelly’s: bra-like top, wrist gauntlets, and low-rise shorts with a belt. In more recent years, Green has expanded her in-ring look by adding her signature raised hat and removable skirts.
Kelly initially retired from in-ring competition in 2012, though she still went on make a handful of more in-ring appearances, including the 2020 Women’s Royal Rumble in which she and Green both entered.
