WWE WrestleMania 42 Night Two: 3 Things We Hated And 3 Things We Loved

They did it. The crazy b*****ds actually went and did it. Oba Femi slayed “The Beast Incarnate” and Brock Lesnar – a notably emotional Brock Lesnar – left his gloves and his boots in the ring.

Now, it would be a categorical lie to say I wanted Lesnar to return, that I even enjoyed a moment of his latest run for reasons that are on record whether appreciated or not. But at the same time, no one was ever going to say with a straight face that the performance, however short it was inevitably going to be, was not going to be an attraction.

Lesnar is Lesnar. Certainly not the most decorated combat sports athlete of all time like billed in WWE, but still a mostly genetic freak who did win the UFC Heavyweight title and run through the NCAA in legitimate wrestling. He is, objectively speaking, a legend in the business. But he is also, objectively speaking, well past his prime and a man with more questionable moments than moves in his arsenal.

Enter Femi, a man who dominated to win the “WWE NXT” Breakout Tournament, then the North American Championship, then the NXT Championship, and left that title in the ring while still unbeaten. He has come onto the main roster and enamored the crowd from the get-go. An entire stadium bumped along to his entrance, chanted his name in a manner befitting one of the biggest stars in the business, a flow synonymous with another name who dominated in a way Femi has. He is and will continue to be one of the biggest stars in every physical and technical metric.

This story was one told a few times before — this was not Lesnar’s first loss, especially not his first WrestleMania loss. He is not the Lesnar that defeated the Undertaker and broke the streak. But this was one told a little bit differently. Each and every time before, Lesnar has either been scared, or vaguely resembling scared, of his opponent and overcame. Or he has been defiant, dominant, and surprised to get his loss. Or, you know, he wins.

This time, Lesnar wasn’t just depicted as something vaguely resembling scared. He was scared. He was scared each and every week he tried to get the better of his would-be usurper. He was scared in the match as he tried again. And when he overcame, suplexed the brains out of Femi and hit the F5, up popped Femi with a chokeslam, a Fall From Grace and the end.

The epilogue saw Lesnar rise slowly, beaten. And it seemed as though he retired. Though if you’ll forgive me, I will not be holding my breath.

Roman Reigns After WWE WrestleMania: Make Some Room, You’re Gonna See Me All Summer

Roman Reigns has promised an extended run after winning the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE WrestleMania 42.

Since 2022 when he re-signed with the company, Reigns has been working a part-time schedule, one that had been brought into his feud with CM Punk ahead of their main event match on Sunday. He beat Punk to turn January’s Royal Rumble win into his seventh WWE World title, a result that Punk had claimed would leave the company without its top champion sitting on the sidelines.

Reings put that worry to bed following WrestleMania, asked by Corey Graves during the Post-Show where he would be taking the title next. He confirmed he would be on Monday’s “WWE Raw” and he would continue to be present over the summer.

“I’m gonna take y’all to Monday Night Raw tomorrow night. I’ll see y’all tomorrow night. That’s where I’ll see you. All this part-time crap, we’re going to fix that. Y’all better make some room, ’cause you’re gonna see my a** all summer,” he declared.

It’s unconfirmed whether he would be wrestling or merely working a segment(s) on Monday. He has not wrestled a match on TV since the Netflix premiere of “Raw” in January last year.

Roman Reigns Defeats CM Punk At WWE WrestleMania 42, Claims World Heavyweight Title

After nailing Reigns mid-Superman Punch with two knee strikes, Punk took the fight outside again with a suicide dive. Reigns was manhandled across the Spanish and English announce tables, but when Punk attempted to capitalize with a top-rope dive, Reigns toppled him over and into a treacherous strike exchange on the apron. Punk’s night went from bad to worse when he found himself hung in a Tree of Woe position, and Reigns’ night drastically improved as he laid Punk out with three Superman Punches and a blow with the steel steps.

With Punk busted open, Reigns attempted another Superman Punch, just to get caught with a GTS. Reigns responded with a Spear and attempted a GTS of his own, but Punk refused to be humiliated. Punk, fueled by his own ego, returned the emasculating favor with a successful Superman Punch before grabbing the ula fala from the crowd, jaunting around with it before preparing for a Spear. He ran straight into Reigns’ enraged grip, and Reigns began choking Punk out. The two of them exchanged submissions, but while both men were broken and battered, their spirits refused to yield.

Allegiant Stadium gasped as Punk tossed his discarded wrist wrap to Reigns, only to use the referee’s disposal routine as a window for a low blow. Punk followed up with a top-rope Elbow to Reigns through the announce table, but both men could not follow up on their GTS and Spear attempts as their bodies collapsed in the ring. In the end, Reigns was the first to his feet, and two Spears secured him his fifth world title win.

Reigns earned the right to challenge for Punk’s title when he won his second Royal Rumble in late January. Now, Reigns has fulfilled his Royal Rumble right to claim his seventh WWE world title.
