Austin Theory Blasts Pat McAfee Ahead of WrestleMania 42

Austin Theory did not hold back when addressing Pat McAfee ahead of WrestleMania 42, delivering strong criticism during a recent media appearance.

Speaking on Unsportsmanlike, Theory reacted to McAfee’s role at WrestleMania 42, where he will be in the corner of Randy Orton as Orton challenges Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Theory, who previously lost to McAfee at WrestleMania 38, made his stance clear.

“Pat McAfee, he’s disgusting. When I think back to that WrestleMania, unfortunately, I lost at that WrestleMania when I faced Pat McAfee. The fact that he’s still around and is going to be walking into WrestleMania with Randy Orton, I don’t really see the levels there. Randy Orton is a legend, Pat McAfee is a scumbag,” Theory said.

He continued by criticizing not only McAfee, but also the platforms that continue to feature him.

“I’m disappointed, very disappointed. I’m disappointed in Las Vegas, ESPN, and WWE. What are we doing? Why do we have this guy? He just runs his mouth, talks a bunch of trash, but he can’t back it up,” Theory said.

When asked to explain his frustration, Theory pointed to what he sees as unequal treatment between McAfee and full-time WWE talent.

“When somebody is sitting behind the commentary table and they get to make their schedule and get in the WWE ring and hold the most prestigious prize and run their mouth for as long as they want, knowing other WWE superstars don’t get that leeway, it’s disgusting,” he said.

Theory will still have his own role at WrestleMania 42. He is scheduled to team with Logan Paul and IShowSpeed against The Usos and LA Knight on April 18 at Allegiant Stadium.

As previously reported, WWE talent are not restricted from speaking openly about McAfee or his involvement in current storylines. In fact, the company appears to be leaning into the criticism as part of its promotion for WrestleMania 42.

Paul Levesque addressed that approach, stating that the attention generated by McAfee—positive or negative—serves a purpose.

“People are talking, and that’s a good thing. Pat—love him or hate him—makes people talk, and that’s what matters.”

With WrestleMania 42 approaching, the ongoing back-and-forth adds another layer to the event. Theory’s comments reflect the broader conversation around McAfee’s presence, which WWE continues to use as part of its overall build.

WWE Star GUNTHER Explains Why Retiring AJ Styles Was ‘Important’ To Him

“The Ring General” turned “Career Killer” GUNTHER proudly retired “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia earlier this year. Despite being giddy in storyline for his accomplishment, the third name on his list of major stars he’s retired, GUNTHER sat down with WWE Vault to speak more out of character about the match. He explained that it was “kind of an open secret” that Styles was going to retire, and their match was different for him than his bouts against Goldberg and John Cena.

“You have AJ, who is somewhat a little more similar to me when it comes to his career because he had a great run here, but a lot of the stuff that people love him for happened before WWE,” GUNTHER explained. “He’s one of those guys… [from] that generation of wrestling that I came up with. We looked up to guys like AJ Styles.”

GUNTHER said that when Styles was in NJPW, he always watched his big matches there, and it was during a time where he was grinding and developing himself. “The Ring General” said he has so much respect for Styles’ work.

“It almost kind of felt, from [my] wrestler purist heart, that it almost felt more important for me than the Cena match,” GUNTHER said. “Onscreen, being able to rub it in and try and ruin the last run he had, it was a lot of fun. AJ’s such a skilled wrestler that you kind of can do everything with him. Creative guy, as well… It was easy. It was fun.”

AJ Styles Believes This Larger-Than-Life WWE Character Had The ‘Best Run Ever’

When fans reflect on some of the best characters to ever step foot in a WWE ring, names like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Rock and Randy Savage are often mentioned in the conversation, but according to former WWE star AJ Styles, there’s only one legend who deserves the recognition for having the most influential persona.

Speaking on “The Phenomenally Retro Podcast,” Styles claimed that nobody in the history of professional wrestling had a better body of work from a character perspective than WWE Hall Of Famer and seven-time world champion, The Undertaker.

“I loved it that he went to the American Badass character and then came back to The Undertaker … he may have had the best run ever. He did have the best run ever as a character,” he stated. “I mean this guy killed it. You watch stuff of The Undertaker, you be like ‘Holy crap, this guy can go and he’s six-foot-nine and he can move?’ Man that’s scary.”

Styles had the privilege of being the final opponent of The Undertaker’s career, as both men fought in a Boneyard Match at WrestleMania 36. Despite the match not taking place in front of a live audience due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Undertaker was satisfied with his performance against Styles. Last night, Styles was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame after retiring from in-ring competition this past January at the Royal Rumble.

AEW’s Paul Wight Recalls Vince McMahon Fining Him $500 For Coming Off Top Rope In WWE

AEW’s Paul Wight has revealed why Vince McMahon fined him for going over the top rope.

Wight, despite his huge size, was a pretty athletic wrestler. McMahon wasn’t keen to display that to the WWE audience and wanted the former Big Show to be like the late, great Andre the Giant.

“You know, I used to jump over the top rope. You know why I stopped doing that? Vince fined me 500 bucks for doing it. because that’s not how giants move. He was in a different mindset then,” he said on “Insight.” “Vince had Andre. Vince wanted [me to be] Andre. Andre ruled the locker room with an iron fist. And you know, Andre did this and Andre did that. I’m not Andre. You know, I’m not a raging alcoholic, and I’m not a mean person.”

The AEW star explained how he was athletic in his younger days, but his peers didn’t want him to showcase it. He recalled an anecdote from his days in Japan, when Hulk Hogan called him and told him that he wouldn’t work with him if he landed a dropkick.

“Everyone had an opinion of how I should work. Some people wanted me to work like Andre. When I was younger, I had so much athleticism. I was like, ‘Oh, I need to show this. I need to show this.’ And then it was like, ‘No, you take away,'” he added. “I threw a dropkick in Japan off the top rope and hit Yasuda with it. And I got to my room, there was a blinking light in my hotel room and the message says, ‘Please call Mr. Bollea when you get to your room.’ Oh, hell. It ain’t even Hulk. It’s Mr. Bollea. Like, I’m in trouble. He goes, ‘Brother, did you just do a drop kick off the top rope in Japan?’ I went, ‘Yeah, I did.’ He goes, ‘Brother, you ever do that again, I’ll never work with you.'”

Wight stated that he was neither like Andre the Giant, nor like other giants like The Undertaker or Kane, arguing that he was a mix of both styles.
