Backstage News On Danhausen’s Status For WWE WrestleMania 42

With the WrestleMania 42 card set for both Night One and Night Two, it would seem that there is no place available for Danhausen to wrestle. And yet, many have expected that the “very nice, very evil” WWE star would manage to make an appearance on the “showcase of the immortals.” Danhausen himself pursuing a potential meeting with WrestleMania host John Cena, an idea endorsed by former WWE star Matt Hardy.

It seems Danhausen could have that wish granted. Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful reports that Danhausen is expected to appear on WrestleMania in a segment, time allowing, and that an appearance alongside Cena has been discussed. However, PWInsider Elite reports that, while Danhausen is planned for the show, the idea discussed for his appearance didn’t involve Cena, but instead Danhausen interacting with mini wrestlers.

Whatever idea WWE decides to go with, fans can expect Danhausen to be around throughout WrestleMania weekend. The former AEW star is set to be a featured presence at WWE World, including an area that will display the coffin Danhausen debuted in back at Elimination Chamber, the jar of teeth that he carries around, and a meet and greet station where Danhausen can interact with fans. A facepainting station will also be in the area.

Though wrestling seems to be out of the question for Danhausen at WrestleMania, he finally managed to get his feet wet in a WWE ring last Friday on “SmackDown,” wrestling Kit Wilson in a singles match. Thanks to pyro shooting off while Wilson was on the top rope, Danhausen was able to take advantage and score a victory, currently making him undefeated in WWE.

WWE WrestleMania X-Seven: Retro 3 Things We Hated & 3 Things We Loved

Vince McMahon fought his own son, Shane McMahon, on “The Grandest Stage of Them All” at WrestleMania X-Seven, the exact place, in storyline where the elder McMahon wanted to reveal his purchase of rival WCW. That didn’t happen, however, as just days prior, Shane announced that “the name on the contract does read ‘McMahon,'” but it was his name, instead. The reveal led to the McMahon vs. McMahon street fight, which also saw a drugged up Linda McMahon, Trish Stratus, and Stephanie McMahon all getting involved.

Sure, their involvement was certainly enough to make the match an overbooked mess, but strangely, there were no WCW stars in sight to back up their new boss, Shane. At the time, there was a rumor that Shane was set to introduce a host of WCW stars at WrestleMania, but as the story goes, someone leaked the debut of the WCW talent ahead of time, and they all suffered the consequence. Instead of helping Shane out in the match, which would have made a ton of sense and kicked off the coming Invasion angle in a big way, they were banished to a sky box and got a brief mention ahead of the match. When the camera cuts to the box before the McMahons start fighting, the stars can barely be seen, to the point it’s laughable.

The wrestling itself in the match is exactly what you’d expect from two guys who weren’t trained wrestlers, though Shane does get plenty of his now-infamous strikes in on his dad. The most memorable spots include when Stratus and Stephanie go at it in a cat fight, leaving the comatose Linda unattended. Vince picks up his wife, plops her in the corner, and at one point, she arises from the chair she’s sat on, no longer drugged up by her own husband, and low blows Vince. Shane also hits an impressive coast-to-coast, complete with trash can set up on Vince’s lap, and the “Prodigal Son” emerges victorious.

And, if you’ve forgotten, Mick Foley is also involved, serving as special guest referee. The match is an overbooked chaotic mess, but involving WCW stars in the mix, and maybe doing the other angles, like the Linda reveal, in the coming weeks, would have only helped the case of the Invasion.

It may seem silly, but perhaps the McMahon family street fight was the precursor to just how badly the Invasion angle would flop. Shane had just announced his huge purchase, right under his father’s nose, yet his newly-signed stars, rather than get involved in a huge angle and help him score the win, were stuck in the sky box.

Seth Rollins Provides Update On His Shoulder Heading Into WWE WrestleMania 42 Match

This upcoming weekend, Seth Rollins will have his first match in six months when he enters battle with GUNTHER on night one of WrestleMania 42. Last October, Rollins picked up a shoulder injury at Crown Jewel during his match with Cody Rhodes, causing WWE to creatively pivot with “The Architect” vacating the World Heavyweight Championship after his faction, The Vision, turned on him. Although Rollins still hasn’t wrestled a match, he’s been on television on a weekly basis since March and during a recent appearance on “First Take,” he revealed that he’s been close to healthy for a while when providing an update on his shoulder.

“I don’t know if it’s been fine for weeks and I got to apologize, but look, if I gave it all away to you right there, then I wouldn’t have been able to get into the chamber and make sure that Logan Paul didn’t win the Elimination Chamber match. So, in reality, by lying to you, I have done you a favor because I have saved us all the trouble of seeing Logan Paul in a title match at WrestleMania … as for the shoulder, it feels great. I don’t know that it’s 100%, but maybe 80, 90% and I’ll tell you what, my 80, 90% is pretty good. Good enough to get us in a position here where we’ve got a match at WrestleMania.”

Rollins continued to explain that a victory over GUNTHER at WrestleMania after coming back from a serious injury at almost 40 years of age would be a massive feather in his cap and is interested in regaining the World Heavyweight Championship afterwards.

Nick Khan Indicates WWE WrestleMania 43 Still Expected To Take Place In Saudi Arabia

Nick Khan spoke of WWE WrestleMania 43 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia with no concern during CAA’s World Congress of Sports.

Per Sports Business Journal, Khan said that the US will always be a core focus for WWE, but internationally derived revenue is becoming its own substantial piece of the pie, making note of next year’s “Show of Shows” being held in Saudi Arabia, the first iteration of the event to leave North America.

Given the US-Israeli war against Iran and its impact on US-aligned Gulf states including Saudi Arabia, there had been some question over whether those events could come secondary to any restrictions placed on the nation. Reports had suggested that the plan was to wait and assess the situation.

And when asked whether he was concerned about any pushback, he said, “I have never read X or Twitter as it relates our business and I’ve certainly never ready it regarding me. That is a vocal minority.”

Khan said he was copied in on every complaint coming into WWE’s personalized fan service. But he relies on three guiding priciples: “Ratings, revenue, and relevancy.”

He continued, “Some of the complaints are, ‘I didn’t like the match, you guys are pieces of s***.’ And I go, ‘Okay, got it.’ Some are, ‘Hey we had an obstructed view.’ Okay, we’ll have you come to our next show. People are allowed to complain, but we don’t adjust our business based on complaints. We adjust based on ratings, revenue, relevancy.”

Chris Jericho Follows Through On Cheeky AEW Trademark

Since returning to AEW a few weeks ago, Chris Jericho has found himself in a far more positive position than when he left the promotion a year ago, largely being accepted by fans in both Canada and the United States. Less positive, however, have been his battles with Ricochet, who not only defeated Jericho at AEW Dynasty on Sunday, but got the better of him on “AEW Dynamite” after Ricochet, Bishop Kaun, and Toa Liona left Jericho laying with a three on one attack.

The attack turned out to be prophetic in a way, as Ricochet had previously warned Jericho that he would become “the guy who gets his ass beat by The Demand every week that he shows up.” And it seems Jericho has decided that, if that’s going to be the case, he may as well have a laugh, and maybe make some money on it. Not long after Jericho took his licks from The Demand, he filed to trademark the phrase “the guy who gets his ass beat by The Demand every week that he shows up.” The trademark seeks usage in regards to “providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network” and “entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances.”

While the trademark shows Jericho’s sense of humor is still intact, it does leave him in position to continue to suffer at the hands of The Demand, unless he is able to get some help. Though Jericho was previously aligned with Big Bill and Bryan Keith as part of The Learning Tree, he has not interacted with the duo since his return. Bill and Keith have remained with AEW, though they have largely competed as a tag team in Ring of Honor, under the name Paid in Full.
