WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque spoke with Joe Tessitore about how quickly plans can change in WWE, especially during the road to WrestleMania 42. He made it clear that unpredictability is a constant, and it does not always come from injuries.
Triple H explained that fan reactions can shift creative direction at any time. Even long-term plans can change if the audience responds in a way that was not expected.
“Oh, there’s a lot of them. Because sometimes it’s surprise of the way that you think a crowd is going to react to something and they react differently. Sometimes it’s, you know, when you’re putting stuff together in your mind. Dusty Rhodes used to say this all the time to me that in your mind you see things 100%. If you can get 70% of that to come out on the screen, that’s a grand slam. In your mind, you picture it perfectly. In execution, it’s different. There’s a million variables that can change it, that bring it down a notch or 2 or 3 or 20 or whatever it is, right? So things turn out differently. Fans begin to react to things differently. What you thought you had locked in four months ago is not the path anymore. The path has changed.”
He then compared WWE to traditional sports, noting that teams in leagues like the NFL or NBA rely on depth when key players are unavailable. WWE, however, operates differently.
“The other thing about our business is unlike a sport, if — and as bad as it is — if you lose your quarterback, if you lose your first string offensive lineman, if you lose your star center or star guard in the NBA, you have a second string guy to back him up and you hope that those second string guys are pretty good.”
That comparison led to his main point. WWE’s biggest stars are not interchangeable, and there is no direct replacement if one is unavailable.
“There is no backup Cody Rhodes. There is no backup Randy Orton. There is no backup Roman Reigns. There is no backup CM Punk.”
By naming Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, Roman Reigns, and CM Punk, Triple H emphasized how much WWE relies on individual star power. If one of those names is removed from a storyline, the entire direction of the show can shift immediately.
With WrestleMania season known for last-minute changes, his comments highlight how fragile even the biggest plans can be. WWE is not built around interchangeable roles, but around specific performers who carry major storylines. When one piece changes, everything else must adjust around it.

WWE has shared additional information about its newly announced fan club initiative, “Club WWE,” following a promotional video that aired during the April 13 episode of RAW.
The company is positioning Club WWE as a premium membership program designed to give fans more direct access to WWE content, events, and exclusive perks. While full details are still being finalized, WWE confirmed that the program will feature multiple tiers, including a gold level that comes with an annual fee. The exact pricing has not yet been disclosed.
According to WWE, members in the gold tier will receive a range of benefits aimed at enhancing the fan experience. One of the key features is a 24-hour ticket presale window for all WWE events worldwide. In addition, members will have access to special event perks such as Superstar meet-and-greets, hospitality packages, and unique entrance opportunities.
The program will also include a members-only WWE Shop. This will feature exclusive merchandise collections and early access to new releases, including John Cena’s upcoming “Never Seen 17” line. Fans who join will also gain access to bonus digital content, such as behind-the-scenes footage, extended segments, and additional insider material.
Another major component is a dedicated community forum for members. WWE is promoting this as a way for fans across the world to connect in one place. Alongside that, the program introduces a points-based rewards system, allowing members to earn credits that can be redeemed for both digital and physical items.
Founding members will receive a premium welcome pack as part of their sign-up. WWE has already opened a waitlist for fans interested in joining early, though the official launch date has not yet been announced.
The company previously filed a trademark for “Club WWE” on March 27, signaling early plans for the rollout. More information, including pricing and additional membership tiers, is expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.

When WWE transitioned from the Black and Gold era of NXT to NXT 2.0 in 2021, the shift brought major changes in presentation, talent, and overall direction. The darker, traditional look was replaced with a brighter style, along with the introduction of new characters that helped shape the brand into what it is today.
Shawn Michaels recently spoke with Adrian Hernandez of Unlikely about that transition and the reaction that followed. He acknowledged that stepping in after a well-regarded era came with challenges and criticism.
“Sure, oh yeah. It’s no different than trying to follow the Attitude Era and things of that nature. You’re always going to have people that look at the past through a lens in rose colored fashion. You’re always going to have people comparing eras, time, or talent. One of the things we try to tell everybody is, ‘comparison is the death of progress.’ It’s something that you keenly have to be aware of, but at the same time, I was very proud of all of those individuals because they understood what they were going up against, they heard the criticism, and the one really positive things, whether it was Bron (Breakker), Trick (Williams), Melo [Carmelo Hayes], Lash (Legend), they are all former athletes. Even from Carmelo and Je’Von’s standpoint, who are Indie guys, it put a chip on their shoulder and made them want to work harder to prove people wrong.”
Michaels explained that many of the performers who emerged during that time used the criticism as motivation. He pointed out that several talents, including Bron Breakker, Trick Williams, Carmelo Hayes, and Lash Legend, had athletic backgrounds that helped them handle pressure and expectations.
“That’s kind of an advantage from our standpoint. Everybody is a fighter if you get into this line of work. They understand that they are always going to be compared to somebody else and they have to withstand that. That’s one of the ways to build character in this line of work. Everybody has to face a little adversity in their careers, and those young men and women faced a lot of it early on and I think they’re better for it.”
The NXT 2.0 era officially ended in 2022, evolving into the current version of the brand. Today’s NXT blends athletes, character-driven talent, and independent wrestling experience, reflecting lessons learned during that transitional period.

With the arrival of WrestleMania 42 later this week comes the one year anniversary of WWE announcing the purchase of lucha libre promotion, Lucha Libre AAA. And while AAA itself seems poised to have little to no presence at WrestleMania weekend, that doesn’t mean WWE doesn’t have big plans for the promotion in the coming months. That includes, arguably, the biggest match AAA has run since the WWE purchase being set up for next month.
Taking to X on Tuesday morning, AAA executive producer and WWE legend The Undertaker announced a mask vs. mask match between Rey de Reyes winner El Grande Americano and “The Original” El Grande Americano. The match will headline AAA’s Noche De Los Grandes event on May 30, taking place in Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

Mask vs. Mask will take place at #AAANocheDeLosGrandes on May 30th at Arena Monterrey. This will be intense!
The clash of Americanos has been almost a year in the making since the original Americano went down with an injury, prompting the emergence of the second Americano and his Los Americanos stablemates, Bravo and Rayo Americano. The feud began properly when Original Americano returned at the 2026 Royal Rumble, with the two squaring off both in an AAA and WWE ring since. The lone singles match between the Americanos took place on the March 16 episode of “WWE Raw,” with the second Americano defeating the original.
The mask vs. mask match will represent the first time in either Americano’s career that they will compete in a Lucha de Apuesta match. It will also be the first major Apuesta match in AAA since WWE purchased the promotion, with WWE having previously focused on building up matches for the AAA Mega Championship as the marquee match on AAA PLE’s.
