Randy Orton Turns on Cody Rhodes – The road to WrestleMania 42 took a dramatic turn on the March 13 episode of WWE SmackDown when Randy Orton viciously attacked Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes during their contract signing segment.
Orton earned the WrestleMania title opportunity after winning the Men’s Elimination Chamber match. At the time, Drew McIntyre was the Undisputed WWE Champion. However, just one week later on SmackDown, Rhodes defeated McIntyre to reclaim the title, setting up the championship clash between Rhodes and Orton on the grand stage.
The contract signing segment initially began in a respectful tone. Both men reflected on their long history together, emphasizing the friendship that had developed between them over the years.
Rhodes spoke emotionally about their relationship and acknowledged the significance of facing Orton at WrestleMania. He said that regardless of what happens once the match begins, his respect and love for Orton would remain.
Both competitors then signed the contract, seemingly confirming the match without incident.
However, the situation changed instantly once the paperwork was completed.
Without warning, Orton attacked Rhodes, slamming the champion’s head into the table before delivering a low blow. The assault quickly escalated as Orton dragged Rhodes out of the ring and used the steel steps to strike him across the shoulders.
The attack left Rhodes visibly busted open as Orton continued the brutal assault for several minutes.
Members of the WWE locker room eventually rushed to the ring in an attempt to stop the situation. Among those trying to calm things down was musician Jelly Roll, who was present during the segment.
Even that effort failed to stop Orton’s aggression. When Jelly Roll attempted to intervene, Orton shoved him aside and continued focusing on Rhodes.
Just when it appeared the chaos was finally coming to an end, Orton returned to the ring and delivered a brutal chair shot to Rhodes.
The segment concluded with Orton sitting in the ring on a chair while holding the Undisputed WWE Championship, sending a clear message ahead of WrestleMania 42.
The attack marks a major shift in the storyline between the two longtime allies and firmly establishes Orton as Rhodes’ most dangerous challenger heading into their championship match.
While I understand why Jelly Roll made his return to WWE tonight, as it is WrestleMania season, after all, the segment was overall pretty confusing and fell flat for me. I loved the backstage segment where Danhausen cursed The Miz ahead of him hosting “Miz TV” alongside “Jam Jelly,” as Danhausen called him, but I didn’t expect the “very nice, very evil” one to appear in the ring for the segment.
He didn’t, but having already tempered my expectations, I wasn’t too upset about that. I didn’t even think that Miz trying to get on Jelly Roll’s good side and butter him up (pun not intended) to be his next tag team partner was bad or anything, as Jelly Roll had a good comeback about how Miz always seems to turn on his partners. What really confused me was the appearance of Kit Wilson, and I say that as someone who really likes Wilson.
I just do not understand what WWE is doing with this character whatsoever. I half expected Oba Femi to strut down the ramp to join this confrontation, after his matches and mini-feud about “Toxic Masculinity” with Wilson, though I’m very glad he didn’t join the fray.
I guess it made some kind of sense, as Wilson explained he didn’t like Jelly for the face tattoos and felonies and such, which make him “toxic,” in Wilson’s mind, but I don’t think the plan is going to be Jelly Roll and Wilson on the “Grandest Stage of Them All.” I guess they could move toward a Miz and Wilson tag team, which I wouldn’t mind, and Jelly could find himself a partner, though at this current point in time, I’m not sure who that would be. Miz isn’t feuding with anyone right now, outside of his storyline with Danhausen, and again, I don’t think Danhausen is getting to ‘Mania alongside Jelly Roll.
Later, it was announced that next week, Wilson will be “calling out Jelly Roll” on the show, which is slightly odd, since that’s what he already did tonight. I believe the show is in Raleigh, North Carolina next week if my Googling serves me right, and I don’t know if Jelly Roll is going to make the trek out there. At that point, we’ll have just four weeks until WrestleMania, so Wilson calling out the star next week seems like that might be where we’re headed. I can’t say I understand it whatsoever, and it seems like it would only add to the trainwreck that is WrestleMania 42, even if it is a tag team match.
The Bella Twins made their return on the March 13 episode of WWE SmackDown, immediately positioning themselves as the next challengers for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.
Nikki Bella and Brie Bella appeared before the scheduled tag team match between The Irresistible Forces and the team of Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair. During their appearance, the Bella Twins made it clear that they are targeting the Women’s Tag Team Titles and planned to closely watch the match to evaluate their potential competition.
The match itself saw Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair take on the powerful duo of Nia Jax and Raquel Rodriguez. The contest featured several momentum swings as both teams attempted to gain control.
At one point during the match, Nia Jax used Nikki Bella, who was sitting at ringside, as a shield during the action. The unexpected moment briefly distracted the competitors, but the match continued as Charlotte and Bliss began to gain momentum.
Charlotte appeared to have the match under control after delivering Natural Selection to Jax. With Jax down on the mat, Bliss climbed to the top rope and prepared to hit Twisted Bliss, which could have secured the victory.
However, the situation changed when Brie Bella suddenly interfered in the match. Her involvement caused the referee to call for a disqualification, ending the bout before a winner could be determined.
The interference prevented Bliss and Charlotte from potentially scoring the victory and immediately created tension between the teams involved.
Later in the show, the Bella Twins were shown backstage with Charlotte and Bliss. The two superstars were clearly frustrated about the way the match ended and confronted Nikki and Brie about the interference.
Nikki explained that they felt they had no choice but to get involved after Nia Jax had pulled her into the action earlier in the match.
Brie then made the Bella Twins’ intentions clear, announcing that they are now next in line for a shot at the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.
With that statement, the segment suggested that Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss may no longer be in the immediate title picture, while the Bella Twins move forward as the latest challengers in the division.
Drew McIntyre “Quits” WWE SmackDown – The March 13 episode of WWE SmackDown opened with major drama as Drew McIntyre confronted SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis just one week after losing the Undisputed WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes.
McIntyre entered the show clearly frustrated following his defeat. The former champion demanded that Aldis “fix” the situation, arguing that the circumstances surrounding his title loss were unfair. However, Aldis quickly pushed back, saying there was nothing to correct.
Aldis reminded McIntyre that being champion means defending the title and pointed out that their match had been a straightforward one-on-one contest. He also referenced McIntyre’s own actions during recent weeks, including repeatedly interfering in Cody Rhodes’ matches.
The exchange quickly became heated as McIntyre accused Aldis of protecting Rhodes and favoring what he called the company’s “golden boy” ahead of WrestleMania.
At one point, McIntyre stood among the crowd and told Aldis that he could “take that contract and shove it up his ass,” insisting that the championship had been taken from him. Aldis remained firm, telling McIntyre that he was blaming everyone except himself.
The SmackDown General Manager argued that Rhodes had been repeatedly denied fair title opportunities due to McIntyre’s interference. According to Aldis, the moment Rhodes finally received a legitimate shot, he defeated McIntyre to win the championship.
The confrontation escalated when McIntyre stepped into the ring and got face-to-face with Aldis, demanding once again that the situation be corrected.
Before the situation could go any further, Jacob Fatu’s music hit and the powerhouse entered the ring. Fatu confronted McIntyre and claimed responsibility for the events that led to his title loss.
Fatu told McIntyre that he was the one who “fixed” the situation the previous week and made it clear that McIntyre would not have been champion in the first place without his involvement. He then challenged McIntyre to respond if he truly believed he had been wronged.
After looking at Fatu, Aldis, and the crowd, McIntyre delivered a shocking response.
He declared that he was done with everyone involved — Fatu, Aldis, Cody Rhodes, and even the fans.
McIntyre then said, “I quit,” before leaving the ring and walking through the crowd as the segment came to a close.
While the moment created a dramatic ending to the confrontation, the situation is widely understood to be part of an ongoing storyline. McIntyre is still expected to remain involved in the developing angle and could reappear later as the storyline continues to unfold.
Welcome to WrestlingAttitude’s live coverage results of WWE SmackDown on March 13, 2026, from the Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix, Arizona!
We get a video package recapping last week’s Undisputed WWE Championship match, spotlighting Cody Rhodes reclaiming the title after Jacob Fatu’s interference.
Drew McIntyre stands in the crowd and tells Nick Aldis he can take that contract and shove it up his ass. His title was stolen from him, and Aldis couldn’t help himself — he had to make sure his “golden boy” got a title match before WrestleMania. Drew demands Aldis make it right.
Nick Aldis comes out and says there’s nothing to fix. Being champion means defending your title. It was a one‑on‑one match. Drew head‑butted a referee, and the match still didn’t go his way. He’s blaming everyone but himself instead of facing the consequences of his actions.
Drew fires back that they had a deal, and he lost those two matches. Aldis had to make sure the corporate champion won the title. He calls Aldis a corporate stooge.
Aldis says Cody got screwed in his title shots. Drew did everything he could to stop Cody from getting a fair chance — because the first time Cody did get one, he beat Drew.
Drew steps into the ring and gets in Aldis’ face. He says they both know this is bullshit. He tells Aldis to make it right… or else.
Jacob Fatu’s music hits.
Fatu enters the ring and stares Drew down. Aldis looks on, unsure what’s about to happen.
Fatu asks what exactly needs fixing. Drew wouldn’t even be champion if it wasn’t for him. He lays out the facts: he fixed the situation last week, and that’s why Drew is no longer champion. This isn’t about Aldis, Cody, or anyone else. If Drew wants to point fingers, then let’s keep it 100 — Fatu is the one who screwed Drew’s ass. And he wants to know: what the hell is Drew going to do about it?
Drew looks at Fatu, then at Aldis, then at the crowd. He says all of them — Fatu, Aldis, Cody, the fans — he’s done with all of them.
Drew McIntyre says “I quit.”
He leaves the ring, walks through the crowd, and exits as the show fades out on the chaos he leaves behind.

Solo Sikoa stands backstage with the lantern in his hands, speaking with a calm, almost ritualistic certainty. He says the plan worked perfectly — The Wyatts are not the number‑one contenders, and they still have the lantern. He tells Talla they’re going to take care of Rowan and Uncle Howdy next. Then he turns to Tama Tonga and orders him to guard the lantern with his life, because without it, the Wyatts are nothing.
Tama suddenly notices someone behind him — Shinsuke Nakamura. He asks Nakamura why he’s here. Nakamura steps closer and asks Tama when he’s finally going to decide to be his own man. He switches to Japanese, his tone low and pointed, the message clearly meant to get inside Tama’s head. Before he can finish, Solo appears again, stepping between them. He tells Nakamura to stay the hell away from his family before he gets hurt.

Trick is stunned, and Fatu levels him with a clothesline followed by a back senton. Fatu hits a handspring moonsault, then clotheslines Trick over the top rope to the floor. Fatu goes for a suicide dive, but Trick cuts him off with a forearm that stops him cold.
Trick follows with a clothesline on the floor, then hops onto the announce table to pose before breaking the count. He sends Fatu onto the announce table, but Fatu blocks a chop and fires back with a punch. Fatu chops Trick against the barricade, then sends him into the ring steps. He throws Trick into the barricade again, breaks the count, and goes right back after him.
They return to the ring. Trick catches Fatu with a spinning heel kick, and the weather‑alert siren hits as Trick unloads punches. Trick clamps on a reverse chinlock. Fatu fights out with punches and a hard Irish whip. Fatu charges but runs into a back elbow. Then Fatu hits Whisper in the Wind for a near fall.
Fatu keeps punching and headbutting Trick, but Trick fires back with a cyclone kick, another kick, and a leaping neckbreaker for a near fall.
Trick misses the jumping side kick and Fatu blasts him with a punch. Trick answers with a flapjack and a kick, then fires up his internal alarm and plants Fatu with a uranage for a near fall. Trick lines up the jumping knee, but Fatu cuts him off with a superkick and a pop‑up Samoan Drop. Fatu crushes him with a running hip attack, pauses to reset, then heads up top and hits a swanton for a near fall. He goes for the double‑jump moonsault, but Trick rolls to the floor. Fatu follows with a shoulder tackle off the apron.
Drew McIntyre suddenly attacks Fatu, slamming him into the ring post. The referee is holding Trick back and sees none of it. Trick hits a running knee on Fatu, then sets up another and connects clean for the three count.
Winner: Trick Williams
After the match, Drew stands over Fatu and drills him with a Claymore.
After the break, we continue with the WWE SmackDown results from March 13, 2026.
In the Arena:
Nick Aldis stands in the ring surrounded by the full contract‑signing setup — table, chairs, microphones, and the WrestleMania contract.
Nick says it looks like Drew McIntyre didn’t quit after all. He officially welcomes Drew back and announces that next week, Drew McIntyre will face Jacob Fatu one‑on‑one.
Nick then brings out the first participant in the WrestleMania main event: Randy Orton. Orton enters calmly, taking his seat at the table.
Nick introduces the second participant: Cody Rhodes. Cody makes his entrance and joins Orton in the ring as the crowd reacts.
Cody tells Randy that when he came to WWE in 2007, his very first match was against Randy Orton. He watched Randy win the Royal Rumble, watched him main‑event WrestleMania, and thought, “I want to be like that.” Cody says he left WWE, but Randy once told him he believed Cody would be World Champion someday. When Cody came back, he didn’t have his usual crew with him — but he did have Randy. Cody says he has always been proud to be “Randy’s boy.”
Cody signs the contract and slides it to Randy.
Randy stands up, looks at the contract, and tells Cody he needs that WrestleMania sign. It was supposed to be easy. It was supposed to be Drew.
Cody says he wants to make it easy for Randy — he wants the Legend Killer. The man JBL once said he’d build a wrestler from. The man with the three most dangerous letters in WWE. Cody says when the final bell rings, he will always love Randy.
Randy signs. They shake hands. They hug.
Then Randy hurls Cody into the table and kicks him low.
Randy tears off Cody’s suspenders and shirt. He throws Cody to the floor, slams him into the announce table, and smashes him with the steel steps. Nick Aldis demands to know what Randy is doing, and Randy shoves him aside.
Randy wipes Cody’s blood across his own hand and keeps hammering him. He drives Cody into the steps again, punches him repeatedly, then drags him onto the announce table and wedges Cody’s head against the side of the steps.
Officials rush out. Randy shoves Jelly Roll to the ground without realizing who it is. Randy walks away toward the back…
…but returns with a steel chair.
He smashes the chair into the steps around Cody’s head. Cody collapses. Randy stands over him, surveying the damage. He returns to the ring, picks up the WWE Championship, sits in the chair he used as a weapon, and places the title across his lap.
Randy Orton sits alone in the ring as SmackDown fades to black.
We go to credits.

WWE SmackDown Preview – March 13, 2026
The Women’s Tag Team Championship will be defended for the first time since The Irresistible Forces—Nia Jax and Lash Legend—dethroned Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY on February 27. They face former champions Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss, who earned this opportunity after defeating Women’s United States Champion Giulia and Kiana James last Friday. Flair and Bliss have been chasing their way back to the gold since losing the titles to The Kabuki Warriors last November.
Last week’s main event shook WWE to its core as Cody Rhodes defeated Drew McIntyre to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion. With Randy Orton already locked in as the 2026 Men’s Elimination Chamber winner and WrestleMania challenger, Rhodes and Orton will make their showdown official with a contract signing tonight.
Women’s Champion Jade Cargill will also be in action in a non‑title match against Michin. As Cargill prepares for her WrestleMania 42 title defense against Rhea Ripley, Michin has warned the champion not to underestimate her, seeking long‑awaited payback.
The war between MFT and The Wyatt Sicks continues to escalate. After Solo Sikoa stole Uncle Howdy’s lantern and later won the WWE Tag Team Titles with Tama Tonga, tensions have only grown. Tonight, Uncle Howdy and Erick Rowan team up to face Sikoa and Tonga in a highly volatile tag match.
In addition, Jelly Roll returns to WWE as the special guest on MizTV, just one week after Danhausen bizarrely declared The Miz to be his new mentor.
