Seth Rollins Details How WWE Rivalry Against Returning Cody Rhodes Came Together

Seth Rollins believes that Cody Rhodes’ return to WWE was significant for the company, as he was the first star to leave AEW and return to WWE.

“That was a big deal for our industry to have someone who had — he was like the first guy who had left, gone to AEW, and then had come back, and I was tasked with, you know, working with him right out of the gate,” Rollins stated.

The former Shield member said that WWE’s goal for Rhodes was to turn him into a major star, explaining that the promotion wanted to position him as the next John Cena. Rollins explained that his history with Rhodes made the clash a perfect fit for the returning star.

“We were looking to make him a big star. He had done his due diligence while he was gone to get himself to a position where when we brought him back, he was ready to be kind of the one of the top acts in the company,” he said. “He was more than excited to get back in the ring with me. He’s someone who I’ve had a lot of history with. His father, who helped kind of — he didn’t train me, but he helped hone me and build me when I was in developmental. I worked with him [Cody] and his brother [Goldust] a lot when we me and my group, The Shield, first came in WWE back in 2012. So there was a lot of history there, and he was more than happy to step into the ring with me.”

Rhodes defeated Rollins in his return match and then went on to defeat him on a few more occasions later in the year.

George Kittle Discusses Origins Of WWE Fandom

“He goes, ‘Dude, just watch with me, Just watch some of these things. You should really like this guy, Seth Rollins, because he’s from Davenport, Iowa, and you’re an Iowa guy.’ I’m like, ‘Okay, I’ll watch it,'” Kittle recalled. “I started watching it right at the end of The Shield. It was like the last three to four months of The Shield. I was like, ‘Oh, this is sick, dude. I love this. I love Seth.’ So every day I’d come back and we’d watch seasons, everything leading up to WrestleMania 1, then everything leading up to WrestleMania 2. He caught me up over the course of that summer. I probably watched like six hours of wrestling a day, minimum.”

Thanks to his WWE Network viewing sessions with Manders, Kittle’s appreciation for the professional wrestling business rapidly grew, so much so that he and his current 49ers teammates have now adopted Shawn Michaels’ flexing pose in moments of celebration.

Kittle cited a match between former world champions Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks as a notable one he witnessed in person. He was especially “blown away” by Flair’s top rope moonsault, which she used to take out Banks on the floor. Elsewhere, Kittle found himself enjoying the comedic work of Chris Jericho, specifically his gimmick of adding his colleagues, and even celebrities, to his list of shame throughout 2016 and 2017.

Admittedly, not every storyline Kittle has seen has been a great one. Still, he eagerly hangs on for the ones that are.

MJF Returns, Crashes AEW World Title Picture

MJF Returns, Crashes AEW World Title Picture

MJF Returns, Crashes AEW World Title Picture – MJF made his long-awaited return during the Holiday Bash edition of AEW Dynamite and Collision and wasted no time shaking up the AEW World Championship scene. Appearing during the contract signing involving AEW World Champion Samoa Joe, Swerve Strickland, and Hangman Page, MJF interrupted the segment and announced that he was officially executing his Casino Gauntlet contract. With that declaration, he inserted himself into the match at AEW Worlds End, turning the championship bout into a four-way.

During his promo, MJF addressed his time away from television and made it clear that his return was deliberate. He stated that he was cashing in now to respond directly to Hangman Page, who had previously accused him of being a coward. MJF rejected that label outright, saying his decision to step into the match alongside three top names was proof that he fears no one. He added that his goal was not just to win the title, but to hurt Hangman by defeating him and his two biggest rivals on the biggest stage possible.

MJF then shifted his focus to Samoa Joe, making it clear that their history remains unresolved. He reminded Joe that he still resents him for taking the AEW World Championship from him two years ago and claimed that the fans turned on him after that loss. MJF stated that legacies in wrestling are defined by the audience and that becoming an all-time great requires reclaiming the top prize.

Turning his attention to Swerve Strickland, MJF delivered one of his most inflammatory remarks of the night. He mocked Strickland with a controversial comparison, saying they shared similarities as “dogshit rappers who use too much baby oil.” MJF referenced their diverging career paths, claiming he became a star in AEW while Swerve went to WWE, where he “twerked for Top Dolla.” He acknowledged Swerve’s accomplishments in AEW but dismissed the idea that the company belonged to him.

Closing out his promo, MJF declared that AEW is his house and warned his rivals that “the rent is due.” The statement served as a clear message that he intends to reclaim the AEW World Championship.

MJF had been absent from AEW programming since All Out, where he lost a brutal Tables N Tacks match to Mark Briscoe. He originally earned his title opportunity by winning the Casino Gauntlet at All In. AEW President Tony Khan later clarified that the contract did not allow for an anytime cash-in and instead required one week’s notice, which MJF has now provided heading into Worlds End.
