Heath Slater Explains How He’d Approach WWE Return If Offered

It’s been six years since Heath Slater competed as a WWE star, and has instead worked for TNA as well as other independent wrestling promotions since being part of the company’s COVID-19 budget cuts in 2020. Although he’s nearing the final stages of his career, Slater recently shared that he’s not closed off to the idea of returning to WWE, but would want to reunite with his 3MB partner Drew McIntyre, and work for the promotion after he retires.

“You know, WWE ever called and was like, ‘Hey man, Drew needs some help. We need to bring the band back together.’ I’ll be like ‘Hell yeah, baby. Sign me for about a year or two,’ but I would follow it up like, ‘Yeah, but after that, could I be an agent or a trainer or something?’ Maybe help some of these kids out a little bit,” he said speaking with “Developmentally Speaking.” “I would totally follow up with that because I’m there. I’m not at the bottom of the ninth inning, but I’m definitely at the bottom of the eighth.”

Slater also explained that he’s continued to keep himself in shape and believes there’s still a handful of years left before he officially hangs up his boots for good, but admitted that his future is uncertain once he steps away from being an in-ring competitor.

Tony Khan Comments On Hangman Adam Page Withdrawing From World Title Contention

On March 15, 2026, the “Ides of March,” Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) assassinated the chances for “Hangman” Adam Page to ever challenge for the AEW Men’s World Championship again in their Last Chance Texas Death Match at Revolution last Sunday. For the second time in AEW history, a top star and founding father of the company will not be allowed to chase nor challenge for the top men’s belt for the rest of his career there. Just astounded as the fans were to see Page lose, AEW President and CEO Tony Khan gave his thoughts on the matter, and whether Page can back out of his word for the sake of his popularity, as many would like to see him prevail again for the third time in his decorated and top handed career.

“It’s the same thing with Cody [Rhodes]. It was a gentleman’s handshake with both of them,” Khan noted in the post-Revolution media scrum. “They both came to me and said, ‘I want to put this at stake.’ And both of them, I told them, ‘That sounds f**king nuts, dude.’ Both of them really wanted to do it. And in both cases I said, ‘Are you sure?’ And then they both said, ‘Yeah.’ So, it is an agreement we made. Second time it’s happened. He (Page) is somebody that’s known for being a man of his word, and we made an agreement. So it’s a verbal contract.”

Even though Khan is leaving the door wide open on this non-binding agreement (since it was never written down or signed officially), Page is known to be a man of his word. Should Page walk through that open door is up to him after his return. As previously mentioned, Rhodes put that same stipulation on his AEW career in 2019 in the main event of the company’s first-ever Full Gear pay-per-view against former and inaugural champion, Chris Jericho. To which, “The American Nightmare” buried his chances earlier on to ever hold the company’s most prestigious title. Instead, he went on to become a former inaugural and first-ever three-time TNT Champion before his AEW departure and return back to WWE in 2022.

WWE’s Dominik Mysterio Reflects On ‘Super Surreal’ 2025 PLE Match

When asked if he considered his win over Cena the craziest moment of his in-ring career, Dominik admitted that he didn’t. Instead, “Dirty Dom” pointed to his Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide debut, which took place on July 25, 2025 in Mexico City.

“I think the wildest one for me was showing up in AAA for the first time,” Dominik said. “Obviously, winning my IC Championship at WrestleMania, insane. Beating John Cena Survivor Series, insane. WrestleMania against my deadbeat dad [Rey Mysterio], two hours from San Diego, insane. The thing is all of those were very large open stadiums, like massive crowds. Juan de la Barrera, AAA, people weren’t expecting me.”

“I think the show was on a Saturday. The show started at 8. I got to the arena at like 8:15, so no one knew I was coming. I showed up, it was insane. This could all be bulls***, but I was told this allegedly when they were recording, it was so loud that the speakers blew out. The cameras couldn’t capture the full audio of it because it was so loud. It gave me goosebumps.”

According to Dominik, one of his long-time goals was wrestling in Mexico for AAA. And in his follow-up appearance at AAA Triplemania XXXIII on August 16, he achieved that. For his initial outing, though, Dominik attacked Dragon Lee and then-AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo.

Dominik went on to dethrone Vikingo as Mega Champion at WWE x AAA Worlds Collide in September, with his reign still running strong to this day. Most recently, Dominik successfully defended the title against Vikingo at the 2026 Rey De Reyes show on March 14. Coming out of it, he was reportedly put under concussion protocol, and of now, has yet to be medically cleared.
