Dave Meltzer Breaks Down Viewership & Social Media Metrics For AEW Revolution 2026

At the time of writing, it’s been almost a week since AEW Revolution 2026 took place and fans are still buzzing over what they witnessed in Los Angeles, California. The show received rave reviews from those in attendance and from people who watched at home, resulting in the fallout episode of “AEW Dynamite” earning its highest TV rating in nine months. In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer spoke openly about the ins and outs of the show from a financial standpoint, as well as how important the social media engagement and pay-per-view buys were to its success.

In terms of the pay-per-view buys, Revolution 2026 was an overwhelming success according to Meltzer. He reported that the show earned the most buys since All In Texas in July 2025, and while he didn’t know the exact number, he was able to confirm that the buys were up 27% from All Out and Full Gear in September and November 2025. With that said, given that Revolution was the first AEW pay-per-view of the year, and the first since December 2025, Meltzer believes that this show won’t be topped until potentially All In London in August. Going beyond 2025, Meltzer went as far to say that Revolution 2026 was the most successful non-All In show AEW has produced since Revolution 2024, which featured Sting’s retirement match.

As far as Google searches and social media engagement, the day of Revolution 2026 saw the most AEW related searches since the first All In London pay-per-view in August 2023. With that said, Meltzer did note that the appearance of Ronda Rousey was a big factor in that metric, taking up six of the top ten searches about AEW in the past week, including the top four, with comedian Wayne Brady taking the number five slot as he was involved in The Infantry’s match with Big Boom AJ and QT Marshall on the Zero Hour pre-show. Speaking of Zero Hour, the show didn’t air on HBO MAX for most customers, one of many problems the service had while streaming the show, which led to people ordering the show from other places. However, HBO MAX did set its record for most AEW pay-per-view buys since the service starting streaming the shows.

AEW Star Kyle Fletcher Names His All-Time Favorite Wrestlers

Now in his second reign as AEW TBS Champion and one of the budding young stars of AEW in general, Kyle Fletcher has reached the point where he could be inspiring kids to follow in his footsteps. But given that Fletcher himself is only 27 years old and not far removed from being a young man with a wrestling dream, it’s fair to wonder just who was inspiring Fletcher during his formative days as a performer.

It’s a good thing then that Fletcher hasn’t been shy about sharing who his heroes were. During an appearance on “The Masked Man Show,” the “Protostar” was asked who were his favorite wrestlers growing up. Surprisingly, Fletcher didn’t name Randy Orton, a wrestler he has often been compared to in recent years, but did reveal an eclectic mix of talents from both WWE and New Japan that served as his favorites.

“So my very first favorite wrestler was Jeff Hardy,” Fletcher said. “He was kind of the man that made me fall in love with pro wrestling. And then from there, my love kind of…I mean, from Jeff, it was then, you’ll love this, The Miz was my next big favorite. The Miz, yup. And then from there, I got into a lot of Japanese wrestling. New Japan Pro Wrestling was kind of my next thing that I fell in love with. Jushin Liger was a big one for me. And then Prince Devitt as well. And yeah, probably Kenny Omega next after that were my favorites.”

Jim Ross Reveals How WCW Stole Dennis Rodman Deal

Jim Ross Reveals How WCW Stole Dennis Rodman Deal

Jim Ross has opened up about how close Dennis Rodman came to appearing at WrestleMania 13 before WCW swooped in and secured the deal instead.

Speaking on Grilling JR, Ross revealed WWE had lined up Rodman for a one time appearance alongside Goldust, believing his unpredictable public image would make for a perfect fit.

“We thought for a one off, one time only appearance by Dennis, it would be a hit, because he was kind of polarizing,” Ross said. “We were disappointed, no doubt, because it seemed like it was going to be a layup.”

At the time, Rodman’s larger than life persona, including famously showing up to events in a wedding dress, made him an ideal crossover attraction. WWE viewed him in a similar role to Roddy Piper’s outsider involvement at WrestleMania 12.

“He was what we needed for that attraction, for that Piper role of an outsider coming in and doing his thing,” Ross explained.

However, everything changed when Rodman personally reached out to Hulk Hogan. That connection opened the door for WCW, with Eric Bischoff quickly stepping in to finalize the deal.

“It was frustrating for everybody,” Ross admitted, while also giving credit to Bischoff for making it happen, noting he was “smart enough and aggressive enough and bold enough to make it happen.”

WCW would go on to feature Rodman at Uncensored before using him in a high profile summer match that drew major attention and business.

The timing made the loss sting even more for WWE, as Rodman’s WCW deal generated major headlines in Chicago just weeks before WrestleMania 13 at the Rosemont Horizon.

Still, Ross made it clear the situation was not catastrophic for WWE in the long run.

“Was it a deal breaker? No. It was, to me, it was always going to be a one time deal,” he said. “WCW got more than one out of Dennis.”

Rodman is now set to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
